$1000 is a tax, not a fee. Especially since most employment (in NY anyway, regardless of what kind of job, it's an insurance thing) requires a valid drivers license. Each state has different standards too. People flunk the NY test 2-3 times, especially if they didn't have any kind of instruction (I passed it first time but already had a WI license since I was 14).

Actually insurance companies would be the best 'equipped' the compute the real costs of licensing. Actuary science and whatnot. Huge conflict of interest though.

Doesn't explain why Canadian drivers are WAY worse than American ones (licenses cost a lot there, so does insurance). Toronto is on par with Boston or DC when it comes to idiot drivers. If you see someone cruising in the passing lane, weaving through traffic, and never touching their signals in NY chances are they have Ontario or MA plates.

I disagree greatly that a driver's license is required for anything. Getting a job. Voting in certain states. It's bullshit. state ID, sure, but specifically a driver's license, that's bullshit.

in africa's and asias defense, they've only had cars for like 8 years. all of us grew up with them.

I cannot support that claim. Chinese and Indian car companies have been around for decades, now. Even Egypt has a car maker a few decades old. And they all have motorsports now anyway, so their learning curve has been accelerated.

How do you disagree with a fact? They won't even take military IDs for state stuff in NY. (There is a point system for state stuff, need 6 points to prove who you are, mil ID is 3, US passport is 4, NYS drivers license is 6, NYS sheriff's ID is 4, birth certificate is 2. I like to make their life difficult by showing my passport and selective service card, no one ever knows what a selective service card is lol.)

They have obviously never been to any country in Asia or Africa (except Japan for some reason). By far the worst drivers on earth.

Most dangerous driver on the roads today is a black woman on a cell phone. Bitchs don't pay attention to fuck all. and they are ALWAYS on the fucking phone.

I think what he's saying is that you can use a state issued ID to prove who you are as easily as a drivers license. I assume that in NY like in most other state the DMV is even the agency that produces the IDs. You can't require a person to drive just because they need to prove who they are. There's lots of people who can't drive who still need to prove identity and therefore get a state issues ID card. You only need a drivers license to drive legally.

Driving record is one of things used to prove you aren't a 'habitual drunkard or addicted to a narcotic substance.' It's pretty new, but a bunch of places I have seasonal jobs at made me get a copy last year and they never wanted one when they hired me. Guessing it's some new insurance requirement. Almost all the job ads have 'must have valid drivers license' in them now, even 'office' type stuff.

Must have valid drivers license with a clean driving record. Pass pre-employment drug screen. Pass Criminal record check.

Yes exactly. How about those people that CAN'T physically or mentally drive? How about those elderly that have enough sense in them NOT to drive anymore so don't renew their license? How are they going to pick up their SS checks when some states will require a driver's license as the only proof of identification? If you want to get shitty drivers off the road do not make it a requirement to have a driver's license for anything in the first place. The people that will want to drive and therefore the better drivers will have the license and those that just need a form of ID and don't care about driving won't clog the roads or get into accidents because they aren't as aware of a driver. Quite honestly I support any legislation that gets people OFF the road and gives better or more different alternatives; better public transport, more support for carpooling, higher road taxes that are properly used for the improvement of roadway infrastructure, more thorough and often testing procedure, etc.

Yep. Apparently the Seller was previously under contract to sell the house to another buyer in April. Seller moved to Florida while this was happening. Buyer didn't get expected settlement payment from something and couldn't buy the house. So the seller is stuck with 2 properties now, and since they are out of state will get hit up with 2.5% capital gains tax when selling. lol

A place in my building I put in a very reasonable offer on over a year ago is STILL for sale because the guy is so stuck on his unrealistic asking price. Hah. He bought it 6 months prior in foreclosure and was asking twice what he paid.

LOL

If he calls your agent a week or two from now and says he'll accept your bid, counter with an offer lower than your original. ;)
