Total finance transparency for politicians would be a start. If you want to hold a position of power then your money how it comes in and goes out is public domain. If that is too much for you then don't take the job. It should be hard and a major pain in the ass to weed out career politicians. Putting back strict limits on donations and lobbyist gifts would be the first start but we all know none of that ever will happen because that type of stuff is never voted for by the people but only by the people it directly effects.

The supreme court is as crooked as the rest of them. Clarence Thomas is about as shady as they come.

Most people don't even vote. I doubt anyone cares, http://www.opensecrets.org/ http://www.legistorm.com/ Proportionally, your local school board has more power over you directly, and I never hear anyone bitching about them.

Really? I'm sure there's expensive land somewhere near where you live. In my town, if you can find vacant land, it goes for about $250K per quarter acre. I recognize it's the middle of nowhere USA, but a place like that next to a national park? I'd turn it into some kind of tourist trap or oooo, an amusement park! I've always wanted a roller coaster or two and you can pick up a decent wild cat or wild mouse design for less than $100K. Moving a wooden one out there might be more expensive but totally worth it.
For a longer reply, I have absolutely zero interest in having large swarms of people near anything I own.

I like rural, because it's rural.

And for that particular chunk, the price seems like a lot for not much that excites me.

250k per acre is insane for AG zoned/unzoned property. Even here in NY it's only 5k. It's the $150 per sq ft residential buildings that jack the price.

She was talking about 250k for a quarter acre, which is about what it was where I used to live.

A house down the street from me was listed as a demo - $350k for .10 acre.

Fortunately someone bought it and renovated the house instead of knocking it down and building something obscene.

There are parts of NY where you can get land for around a thousand an acre, or even less, unfortunately it's NY and NY sucks.

No offense, of course.
