Thread Good news from the western front.

actually that's not proof positive of why at all. especially since that type of fraud exists in far greater excess at the top level income and corporate tax levels. welfare fraud is a drop in the bucket compared to corporate tax fraud so no one's taxes should be lowered one dime until that's eliminated from the federal budget

The even bigger picture is that taxes need to be raised and spending slashed, if we want this country to be here in 50 years. The voting sheep, nor the people they elect, seem to really know that we can't keep inflating our money and borrowing forever...

there remains the argument that slashing corporate and personal taxes will magically lead to job creation when historically it's never actually happened. certain people completely ignore the fact that when the bush tax cuts were instituted for the next ten years the economy increased while the average middle class wage went down. this asinine idea that lowering taxes would only apply if the companies and people that benefit the most from it weren't spending the majority of their savings investing outside of the country rather than in it.

lower taxes does not create jobs. slashing programs does not get people out of poverty. the democrats may be spineless idiots but the republicans are evil and selfish bastards

fuck ayn rand and this objectivism douchebaggery

Report: Students don't know much about US history

The popular historian David McCullough says textbooks have become 'so politically correct as to be comic.' Meanwhile, the likes of Thomas Edison get little attention.

'We're raising young people who are, by and large, historically illiterate," David McCullough tells me on a recent afternoon in a quiet meeting room at the Boston Public Library. Having lectured at more than 100 colleges and universities over the past 25 years, he says, "I know how much these young people—even at the most esteemed institutions of higher learning—don't know." Slowly, he shakes his head in dismay. "It's shocking."

He's right. This week, the Department of Education released the 2010 National Assessment of Educational Progress, which found that only 12% of high-school seniors have a firm grasp of our nation's history. And consider: Just 2% of those students understand the significance of Brown v. Board of Education.....

Who needs books? We have progressive politicians, professors and Jon Stewart.....to tell us about our history.

From the Article:
"Until I heard your talk this morning, I never realized the original 13 colonies were all on the East Coast." Remembering the incident, Mr. McCullough's snow-white eyebrows curl in pain. "I thought, 'What have we been doing so wrong that this obviously bright young woman could get this far and not know that?
'

McCullough does his best to avoid the 600lb. elephant sitting in the room. He knows good and well what the problem is....but doesn't want to admit it. Might not be invited to the right c*cktail parties.

It's not gonna' be solved 'til a majority will admit what the problems really are.

thomas edison was a thief, he doesn't deserve accolades. and history was "politically correct" half a century ago with all the whitewashed versions that neglected to detail how the founding fathers owned slaves and slaughtered indians

go back to pretending you have any idea what progressive means

clearly you're in the camp whose only recourse is to complain about jon stewart. your fall into neoconservative idiocy grows deeper every day. you used to have some semblance of rationality before you fox'd yourself retarded

Thank you for such wonderful reply that only consisted of name calling.

TSA Now Storming Public Places 8,000 Times a Year

Candidate Øbama: "We need a civil force as strong as the military"

Americans must decide if, in the name of homeland security, they are willing to allow TSA operatives to storm public places in their communities with no warning, pat them down, and search their bags. And they better decide quickly.

Bus travelers were shocked when jackbooted TSA officers in black SWAT-style uniforms descended unannounced upon the Tampa Greyhound bus station in April with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies and federal bureaucrats in tow.

A news report by ABC Action News in Tampa showed passengers being given the signature pat downs Americans are used to watching the Transportation Security Administration screeners perform at our airports. Canine teams sniffed their bags and the buses they rode. Immigration officials hunted for large sums of cash as part of an anti-smuggling initiative.

The TSA clearly intends for these out-of-nowhere swarms by its officers at community transit centers, bus stops and public events to become a routine and accepted part of American life.....

From the Article:
The TSA has conducted 8,000 of these security sweeps across the country....

Wonder how many of 'em were at the border?

From the Article:
What is remarkable about these security swarms is that they don't just involve federal, state and local law enforcement officials. The TSA brings in squads of bureaucrats from state and federal agencies as well, everything from transportation departments to departments of natural resources. The TSA had received no specific threats about the Tampa bus station before the April sweep, reporters were told.

You mean this was just a drill?

From the Article:
They were there "to sort of invent the wheel in advance in case we have to if there ever is specific intelligence requiring us to be here," said Gary Milano with the Department of Homeland Security...

"...in case"? In case of what? A revolt by ordinary Americans?

See what happens when you start calling rights a privilege?

I really hope for the day when Americans start realizing they don't have to put up with this stuff.

It's really sad how we fight to deny others their rights: whether it's the right not to be pulled over for any reason, not to be groped by a TSA dude at the airport, or even land ownership rights.

Our DofI says GOD endowed us with inalienable rights. The document listed 3 but said these were AMONG those rights.

STOP SUPPORTING THE GOVERMENT HAVING POWER OVER PEOPLE.

Or you get what you get, and we're getting it up our collective asses right now. And until people stand up and fight, we deserve it.

at this point your arguments don't deserve much more

though note that I did respond to the article. thomas edison was a thief and only deserves to be mentioned in history books as such. if you think history books were better before then you clearly don't know that they conveniently omitted atrocities perpetrated throughout this country's history. history books that make america look perfect and correct in every situation were a problem

Dad of 16-Year-Old Bride Says 51-Year-Old Husband Is ‘Nicest Man I’ve Ever Met’

From the Article:
How do you top a Sweet Sixteen party? With a wedding!

When 16-year-old pop singer Courtney Alexis Stodden decided to marry a man 35 years her senior, she needed permission from her parents - and she got it – gladly.

Such wonderful parents no wonder this country is going to the crapper.

I am no fan of Thomas Edison and I will agree that at one time U.S. History books did white wash parts of its history. However today the history being taught is just the opposite. Where America is the root of all evil in the world and nothing good can come from it. Personally, I would rather have a historical accurate, warts and all, history then either extreme side.

She's hot and young. He's ugly and old and rich. If I were her I would have waited a few decades, but I guess she wanted an early start.

Then please tell the Texas school book makers that please. the book makers that provide the learning materials for most of the country.

Except no one is being taught that america is the root of all evil and nothing good can come from it. That's not part of any curriculum in any public school in the country. Pointing out this country's flaws is not the same as saying it's the root of all evil.
