So I'm hungry. And I remembered that a local branch of supermarket has their bin day Thursday AM so their bins are most full on Wednesday evenings. After a quick excursion out there with my rucksack I stumbled across these treasures (and in addition a fellow skipmate called Ginger Shaun who just happened to be ferriting around in the bin too):

Yuck! What is that Nemo? I hear you say in your little brains. Well....a feast for any man:

Not only white and milk chocolate giant cookies...

....but two fresh loaves of bread still sealed....and....

...BAGS OF DONUTS AND MUFFINS OM NOM NOM NOM

Anyway here is what we saved, the rest is going up to Squat Towers in the next 15 minutes to help the squatters out:

I hope this inspires one and all of you to root through bins far and wide and report back with your goodies.

[insert trascan for your vomit here]

PS This blueberry muffin is DEVINE!

Its sad how wasteful our society is these days. :(

That's not the best of dumpsters by a mile. Years ago I used to go to an organic grocers on a Sunday with my mum in her car and there were literally three whole dumpsters full of organic veg ready to be incinerated. Whole boxes of fresh leeks, peppers, you name it. I actually fed over 15 very sizeable households every week for months on end from those vegetables.

I'm reading the Omnivore's Dilemma and I am now fully freaked out by eating non-grass fed beef.

Again, our society is wasteful and takes shortcuts with food. It's something so simple, that we have ruined. /soapbox

That rod sticking up your ass sir....try not to let it give you a haemorrhage.
 i love you. seriously though, I'm glad that it's being used. I just hope you avoid anything that might be tainted or spoiled

one of the most sickening things about working at a grocery store is that you see just how much perfectly good food gets thrown away. even worse is when they won't let employees have food that's about to wind up in the garbage without paying for it
Oh shit Semper I'm so wrong...you're so right. It's totally cool to use these resources and put them in the bin whilst people go hungry. SOOOOOO COOOOOL

oh relax :sucky:

I was raging so much the other day. Went into a store just as it opened and was like 'ooh chocolate yoghurt on the reduced pile' and went to pay for it. 'Sorry that went out of date last night we can't sell it to you we have to throw it away'. I was like u cannot b serios, just give me the fucking yoghurt then you jobsworth cuntbag. Raging.

No way would I let anything be thrown if I worked in a food store. They'd have to get past me to the bin first.

Oh and as for spoilt food my rule is -if the meat is blue and the dogs won't touch it then it's bad meat. Dogs are great indicators for that kinda thing. Top homeless loser tip for y'all.

As long as you cook it well enough, it's prolly fine anyways.

everything else is vaccinated, pumped full of hormones, etc. while out to pasture, and grain fed before slaughter. people i know who raise their own cows grain feed them about a month out, dunno what standard practice in feed lots are.

They grain feed them a month before slaughter because it reduces the e-coli and other bacterial issues by almost 80%. Most slaughter houses don't do this because it is expensive to do. Yes, MOST slaughter houses pump the animals full of anti-biotics and hormones, but not all. There are local farms around us that do strictly grazing and no hormones/antibiotics unless the animal is truly sick, which is rare. (It's super expensive meat, but I would like to support a local business and people who are doing the RIGHT thing.)

The diet we feed cows is horrible for them and it is very bad for us. We are missing out on necessary Omega 3's and our health is getting worse.
