Joel Ewanick, General Motors' new Chief Marketing Officer, said on Twitter tonight that GM will bring back the El Camino if 100,000 people say they want it. We'll call that bluff. UPDATED (05/08 — 6:11 PM EST) This all started when I noticed Joel Ewanick, the brains behind Hyundai's wildly successful "Hyundai Guarantee" program, joined Twitter earlier today. I tweeted out a welcome to Ewanick, urging others to follow him.

As you can see, I also playfully suggested my followers — and Jalopnik followers — tell Ewanick they want him, and by extension, GM, to bring back everyone's favorite truck-car, the Chevrolet El Camino.

100,000 El Camino fans shouldn't be hard to find.

If they don't call it an El Camino and run into the issue the GTO did. Honestly if they call it a "ute" like it will be, I would be ok with it.

Seeing some of the more successful retro-restyles of some cars today (Mustang, Camaro, etc), i'd be really interested in seeing what they do with a restyled el camino.

however, it's a vehicle style that I just don't think works in todays world any more with the other options available.

they're only going to import the shit from australia just like the gto. there might be some minor cosmetic changes to an already existing model but that will likely be it

Quite honestly, I think it's a near perfect body style. Seating for four with utilitarian hauling capabilities with arguably superior gas mileage than an F-150. What's not to like? I can see a vehicle like that going really well for southern places that need hauling ability but still drive in the city more often than not. It's the same reasoning why soft-road SUV are so popular, because they fit so many niches at least reasonably well. This would just be a lower-riding, more utilitarian version of a softroader. See the Subaru Baja sales for details.

Yes, and there is nothing wrong with that.
