So we cook a lot in the kitchen. The recipes we use either require us to print something out, or use the netbook. Both take up counter space when cooking. Since I had an old laptop laying around...

I don't have pictures of what I did to the laptop, but basically I flipped the screen - which was NO easy task. Probably took me a total of 3-4 hours to do. I think it was worth it tho...

Its a Lenovo and very slick. If you keep an eye on slickdeals, they go up every couple of months for like $30. Great for a HTPC too (which is what I stole it from).

Might pick one up for the HTPC that I'm putting together. Just wish I could find a HDMI capture device.

Great job! You should add a touchscreen overlay to it, too, so you don't have to use the handheld if you don't want to.

is your xoom connecting to exchange ok?

The Xoom is just running DroidOS right? Is it the new 3.0 honeycomb, or still 2.2?

I know that the Exchange connection (using an OWA connection) for me kicks ass, and actually synchs my exchange mail better with my droid then BES ever seemed to with my Blackberry

So, fly, knowing what the inside of the monitor casing on that model Dell looks like, how on earth did you extend the video feed cable enough to support the flipped LCD?

Not possible. HDMI uses encryption. iirc, there was a company that sold a device that decrypted it, but they got their keys pulled. And the amount of data that can go through HDMI? You better have mega-terabytes...

Didnt want to spend any extra money. Plus Win7 is a TERRIBLE tablet OS.

Its Android, not DroidOS dammit. And yeah, its the flagship device for Honeycomb.

Flipped it, and ran the cable through the other hinge. It wasn't perfect, but close. The real bitch was getting the wifi antennas routed properly.

And I thought about the Lifehacker thing, but I didn't actually take pics of the hardest parts - flipping the laptop screen.

it's running 2.3 I believe. one of my coworkers was trying to connect one up to exchange a few days ago and it wouldn't pull mail down. that might have something to do with us still being on exchange 03 though.
