Ontopic There is something interesting going on in the Middle East

Then why has the cost of corn gone up enough to affect food prices?

Because of government mandates on corn-based ethanol. However, farmers still lose money growing and harvesting corn. They only "make" money because of the government subsidies. And since most farming involve large, fixed expenses (like trillion dollar tractors), they HAVE to grow as much as possible.

the reason we don't send spent nuke fuel into space is because we're afraid of catastrophic failure of the launch vehicle while still in our atmosphere... the nuclear fallout would be amazing. oops.

needs moar giant slingshot.

This wouldn't have been a problem if they'd let me build my Mega Sling-Shot.

You start asking for trillion dollar investments and a troop of monkey test subjects and all of the sudden you're being irrational, FOOLS!

that's a concern but it's not the reason we don't do that. it's because the amount of money required for all the launches necessary to get even a noticeably significant amount of our nuclear waste into space would be - no pun intended - astronomical

we would have to be launching that stuff on a daily basis at the cost of billions per launch to make a dent in the amount of nuclear waste we have

if we outsourced it to russia we could get it done for like 12 million per launch.

Another way to save energy in this country is to get people to use their dryers less. In summer, people should be hanging their clothes to dry.

not very convenient for everyone and the savings would be negligible

Are you shitting me?

Almost every single household in this country runs a dryer for around 30 minutes to an hour everyday.

Even if you halved that, it would still amount to a fuck ton of energy being used..

Quite true.

Would you believe, that it's against many HOA's to do so?

And in several non-HOA areas, people have bitched and moaned when neighbors did so.

Geniuses.

Of course, I wouldn't want to do it in the inner city, because the laundry just gets nastier hanging outside.

Understandable for people without yards.

HOA's should be outlawed.

 where the hell are you getting this statistic? almost every single household? you can't even say almost every single household even has a dryer in their home. every day? holy shit dude

and your definition of a fuckton of energy doesn't matter, it would still be relatively insignificant to the amount of energy we use for everything else every day

I knew that was a generalization, hence the "even if you halve it"..
