Yep, wood is good.

I'm trying to figure out what I want to do with my horribly inefficient oil boiler

Ours is suppose to be a new one. They said the tank was full (@ 240 gallons) when we moved in 1 month ago. We had it measured yesterday, and they said it was at 50 gallons. How can we use 190 gallons in 1 month? That ridiculous expensive if true.

YEah I'm gonna go to Home Depot today and get that stuff. Also gonna get an axe to half some of the wood pieces. Then we can feed to potbelly fireplace downstairs which should help.
invest in a couple of split mauls too, they will save your back and shoulders in the long run depending on the hardness of the wood you're splitting

my parents have already had their oil tank filled three times this winter. this is mostly due to my mother's lack of insultation and circulation and she has the heat cranked to 80, but normally the tank gets filled 2-3x per winter.

You have got to be fucking shitting me.........

DECEMBER 22--A 13-year-old boy was arrested Friday for using a permanent marker while in class at his Oklahoma City middle school, a violation of an obscure city ordinance.

According to an Oklahoma City Police Department report, the boy was spotted “in possession of a permanent marker” by Roosevelt Middle School teacher DeLynn Woodside. The 50-year-old educator told cop Miguel Campos that the student was “writing on a piece of paper, which caused it to bleed over onto the desk.”

Woodside, pictured at right, reported that the child, whose name was redacted by police from the report, attempted to hide the marker when she asked him for it. Strangely, Woodside’s Facebook page reveals that her “likes and interests” include the official “Sharpie Permanent Markers” page on Facebook.

Campos reported that he allowed Woodside, a seventh grade math teacher, to “sign a citation” against the boy, who was then transported to the Community Intervention Center, a juvenile holding facility. A police sergeant subsequently “booked the marker into the property room.”

A police spokesman referred to the student’s bust as a “citizen’s arrest” effectuated by Woodside.

The marker ban--which apparently is aimed at curbing graffiti--stems from a city ordinance making it illegal to possess spray paint or a permanent marker on private property (without the owner’s permission).

Yar, I have an 8lb one and use it for all of my splitting, started out with a wedge and a sledge but that was useless except for tiny kindling pieces.

Green wood is easier to split of course.

I've used 100 gallons in a month  and that's mostly just for hot water, of course I'm lucky if mine is 60% efficient.

Green wood will also smoke a lot more then wood that has cured for a year.

Lunchbox mix-up leads to charges for Sanford teen

Sanford, N.C. — An athletic and academic standout in Lee County said a lunchbox mix-up has cut short her senior year of high school and might hurt her college opportunities.

Ashley Smithwick, 17, of Sanford, was suspended from Southern Lee High School in October after school personnel found a small paring knife in her lunchbox.

Smithwick said personnel found the knife while searching the belongings of several students, possibly looking for drugs.

“She got pulled into it. She doesn’t have to be a bad person to be searched,” Smithwick’s father, Joe Smithwick, said.

The lunchbox really belonged to Joe Smithwick, who packs a paring knife to slice his apple. He and his daughter have matching lunchboxes.

“It’s just an honest mistake. That was supposed to be my lunch because it was a whole apple,” he said.

Ashley Smithwick said she had never gotten in trouble before and was surprised when the principal opened her lunchbox and found the knife.

The teen was initially given a 10-day suspension, then received notice that she was suspended the rest of the school year.

"I don’t understand why they would even begin to point the finger at me and use me as an example," she said.

This month, Ashley Smithwick, a soccer player who takes college-level courses, was charged with misdemeanor possession of a weapon on school grounds. She is no longer allowed to set foot on campus.

“They made it sound like it was a big ol’ buck knife that you’re out here hunting with,” Joe Smithwick said.

Darla Cole, the chief school resource officer in Lee County, told WRAL News she could not comment on the case.

Lee County Superintendent Jeff Moss told the Sanford Herald that he can’t discuss the specifics of the case, but school policy allows principals to consider the context of each case and determine discipline.

Moss said students who accidentally carry a weapon and report it to teachers will get a light punishment. If teachers find it, he said, the discipline is harsher.

“When the principals conduct their investigations, what typically is fleshed out is the true intent,” he told the newspaper. “Bottom line is we want to ensure every child feels safe on our campus.”

I'd love to be in a position to make that principals life a living hell. Speeding? here's your ticket. I could let you go, but rules are rules. Didn't fill out the proper paperwork on this incident a year ago? You're terminated. Sorry, rules are rules. This girl says you groped her on school property?? No bond for you. Welcome to being labled a sex offender. Rules. . . gotta live by 'em.
