Ontopic Buddhism

wouldn't satan be a god? he created evil and demons... do all 'angels' have this capability? seems like something only a god could do.

and why does jesus talk to god in the bible if they're one and the same?

he didn't create evil and demons. according to christian doctrine, everything was created by god, including evil and demons. the devil merely took control of those aspects

angels by themselves could be considered sub deities since people pray to them and ask for their guidance. they're immortal, powerful, etc... just like any other god would be. christians just label them angels though to try to stay monotheistic... makes no sense.

you're not supposed to pray to angels, though. it's not part of the doctrine.

angels don't have power themselves, they merely act as carriers of gods will. they wouldn't be considered deities

saints have different meanings in different denominations but generally they're just considered to be people through whom god has performed miracles. again, just vessels. that people pray to those saints is against christian doctrine; basically just more shit the catholic church makes up off the top of its head

no one said any of this shit made sense but to call it polytheistic is defeating the purpose. the difference between a polytheistic and monotheistic religion is that the latter recognizes that there is one, single, all-powerful being in control of everything. that the being has multiple personality disorder or takes different forms doesn't change the core belief that it's one entity...unless you're lds in which case you claim it's three but beat around the bush when asked about it, just like the tablets

either way, it's all just as silly as the hippy bullshit of buddhism right along with it's own make-believe wizards and magical monsters as well as the durka durka hey let's inconvenience everyone by washing our feet in the kitchen sink and kneeling in the middle of the fucking hallway at random times during the day. and take a fucking shower, all of you

i think people should be able to pray to whatever the fuck they want. a ghost, a saint, a puppy, a turd, a balloon, a lump of sugar. religion, i think, is so personal. why does everyone get all stoopido about it?

Because people can't stand being different. They lash out at things they don't understand, be it baggy pants, funny music, or spirituality. It's like when you make fun of Nemo for dumpster diving. It has nothing to do with you and doesn't harm anyone but you can't kick her hard enough when she talks about it.

sarcasmo's once a month white knighting

I think your hold on personal possessions might hinder your ability to become a true Buddhist.

Yeah uhm....all buddhist practices comes over time and with many faulterings along the way. It's pretty hard changing your entire way of viewing the world and thinking you know.

I thought I'd given up on grasping and I try and often I'm not upset by material loss but obviously it's still there. Like when we built that whole bedroom from scratch recently, we lived in it for 2 weeks and then demolished it. We'd spent over a month making it. Everyone was like  but actually it didn't bother me, I had that experience and now it's gone, end of. I'm sure at any other time I might have been more upset about it though. Grasping onto material goods is something we're taught from a very young age.

yes but there is a huge difference between your views on possessions and the thread creators.

And there's differences in those views between every single person this board. Being a 'true Buddhist' doesn't mean you give all your clothes away, eat only rice and turn your heating off, it's a gradual growth towards being the best person you can be. And you have to start that process from where you are at the current time. Where Kiki may grasp at material things she may do something else less than the person next to her who doesn' grasp so much. Who cares? There shouldn't be judgement if someone wants to better themselves.
