Now that I'm in a colder climate where Xmas trees actually grow I was thinking about getting a real tree for the first. I haven't had one since I was a kid and honestly I don't even know how long they will live. Which do you prefer?

I had a discussion about this last week actually and was stunned to hear down south that real trees are allowed in apartments. Every apartment I was in up north outlawed real trees and advocated fake ones for the holidays.
That being said, my family always had a real tree. If watered daily, it lasts a few weeks, especially if you get a "fresh" tree and not one from a tree lot that has already been sitting there for a couple weeks before you buy it.

If you are buying a tree from a lot, it's hardly fresh and might make it to Christmas. If you are cutting down your own tree, it will last months. When we cut down our own tree, I don't even know if my parents ever actually watered it, but after Christmas it would go to the backyard till it was finally dead and dried out and we'd have a bonfire. This bonfire usually happened in July.

Cut your own places are the only way to go, or just trudging out to a corner of the property and dragging one back.

I'm allergic to real trees and fake trees come pre-lit. We've done a real tree almost every year. Last year we finally got a fake tree that fits in our house. It's the best thing ever.
that's why you get a nice looking artificial and then go to a Yankee Candle shop and get a Christmas Tree candle to light in the same room. Ta-da!

If I touch pine and get the sap on me I get a skin reaction. The pollen also makes me really sneezy and eye watery.
