so many things wrong with this1. The pilot didn't just make the decision to do it on his own.
2. The airline didn't schedule a flight plan for that purpose, it would be a massive waste of fuel.
3. It's not legal because flying through a nation's airspace does not put everyone on the plane within that country's legal jurisdiction.
4. Airline captains don't have the legal authority to officiate marriages. This isn't the high fucking seas.
Maybe the ceremony actually took place but it was done because the flight path was already taking them over Canuck space and the idiots involved don't understand the laws. That ceremony was purely...ceremonial and carries zero legal weight.

doubtful, pilots are supposed to keep the flight deck hatch secure unless it's an emergency. they don't even get service from the flight attendants anymore
when kidane was getting his pilot's license he was showing me some of the aircraft audio warnings. they use the same ones for ms flight sim, good ole bitching bitty

Unless he just happened to also be an ordained minister - in which case he should know both as an ordained minister and an airline pilot that the laws simply don't work that way - he has no authority to marry people. Even ship captains don't automatically have that authority. Hollywood myth just got extended beyond its original idiocy.
And marriage laws may not be identical to all other laws - most sets of laws follow different procedures for things - but no marriage law is so fucking retarded that merely flying through airspace creates a legal avenue for marriage. The basic rules of jurisdiction still apply even if we're talking about a marriage.
This ceremony was purely for show. Good for them if they realize that but if not,
on them.
