We basically do the same thing in the US, it's just divied out once a year in the form of a child tax credit.

Also, dude, DB, you don't have to be rich to be have kids, you just need priorities. We were making barely 30k when we had our first, and we survived and our kids have never been left wanting.

You also weren't in the "very poor" category. You wern't even in the "poorish" category. And I never said it was impossible. Certainly in this country it is a feat at most any income level to raise a child seeing as though we aren't pussies and have to pay for school and hospital care.

the stat thrown around in the news these days is that it will take a million $ to raise a child from birth to age 18. fuck that! :fly:

There are problems with the implementation of this idea.

1 If both I and my wife earn £43,999 each we get child benefit.
If one of us earns £44,000 we don't. Why don't they base it on family income?

2 A pay rise from £43,500 to £47,500 would see no net benefit if you have 3 children as you also move into a higher tax bracket at the same time as losing £2150 in child benefit. A disincentive to work harder at that point.

Yeah, there are points in our tax structure where a 1,000-2,000 raise could end up with you taking home quite a bit less money.

How pleasant.

Load of BS. I couldn't make a million in 18 years, so how could that be right? Unless that figure includes all government expenditure etc???
you wouldn't be able to get a job that would have you averaging 50 grand over two decades?

what good are you to society?

You forget your money isn't worth very much compared to ours therefore our million > your million. So no, 50grand (i.e. more like 100grand in your money at times) is not achieveable for me right now seeing as my career choice is that I want to be a teacher. :)

you professed to exclusively dating dudes on the dole. don't blame me for your poor choices, babe. ;)

Some of us are capable of joking too, babe. My ex had a better paying job than me and my current partner has had some very good jobs in the past. His job at the moment is looking for a job and being a musician in between.

I know it's cool to try and fit in and joke and be nasty and all but really, reducing yourself to childishly laughing at somebody elses partner is pretty low. Perhaps you should have a 2 second think about that and realise it. 'she fucks the poor lolol' isn't the height of witticism nor is it particularly respectful posting. Not what I'd expect from you waw.

It doesn't matter to me if you 'buy' things or not, however it's not particularly great to be subjected to you being a nasty douchebag on this forum of all places. I expect it from some people because that's just their way, not from you dear.

This is mostly true. However since your schooling and medical is covered, you really only have to make due with USD $250K or so. That's like a buck fitty in your tonnage.
