For the last week Ive had a killer flu that has made me absolutely miserable. On Wednesday the pain in my joints from aches and swelling was so so severe that I couldn't do anything besides sit in a recliner and groan. I didn't want to drink anything because swallowing was agony (it still is today, as a matter of fact, but I continue to choke down water). The flu wouldn't be so terrible if not for the fact that I'm not sleeping. For going on a month now I've been waking up around 2am almost every night and not being able to go back to sleep. The drain on my body, particularly this week, has been horrible. I'm not sleeping long enough for my body to put itself back together, so I have more aches in more places from muscles that were never able to put themselves right.

Due to my own personal psychosis I despise and distrust pretty much anything doctor/hospital related, and will only go as a last resort, but today I gave in and called our family practitioner and asked for help. The thought of going through another night on 3 or 4 hours of sleep, if that, is almost enough to break me.

Does all the clenching work your abs?

Actually yes, they're being all like "KABLAM!" and what such.

Are you throwing up? If not, get some Vitamin C in you.

Luckily there was very little throwing up, which again due to my weird personal psychosis, is about the worst thing I can possibly imagine happening to me. I'd rather die of internal bleeding than puke.

Is sleeping when you can rather than pattern of sleep possible?

There is not much that can shift a flu - The best thing you can do is take painkillers and basically wait it out. If it hasn't progressed to something else, that is.

blame the majority of people taking antibiotics for minor aliments for your predicament. there has been one new antibiotic on the market in the past 9 years... way below what is needed in order to keep up with the rate of infection. most flus now are far more serious than their previous counterparts.

i agree. fuck, ride it out people. I haven't had an antibiotic in about 8 years.

vomitting is the bodies expulsion of infection, waste or food which is too nutrient rich to digest when the body is dealing with the infection.

if you are eating fine, it could be a sign of being on the mend. elsewise, vomitting can be a nice end to a sickness.

i pray some nights that i vomit if i've been at the bottle too hard - when i finally do... fantastic.

My problem is, it never hits me at the end of the night.

Blots my freakin head about an hour after I wake, and comes back for about 3-4 more occurrences. My biggest issue with drinking. Doesn't happen often, but when it does, I'm freakin miserable.

This. I won't use any anti-microbial anything. I don't need super germs around my house, and I'd rather my immune system be all gargantua gorilla on bugs and shit instead of relying on antis. Now, if I get some massive infection somehow, then, yeah, pump me up. Until then, I'll just suck it up. Nietzsche is right on that aspect. What doesn't kill you does make you stronger.

i keep carrot cake in the fridge for this exact use.

most high-sugar root vegetables have a very weak allergic reaction in me, i throw my ring up all over the place.

i'm of the belief that they should only be used for triple treatment - if anything. that is, 3 anti-biotics at once. that way, it's very hard to build up immunity to them. however, this is only really used after 1x anti-biotic has been tried. it's also like taking a hammer to open a peanut.

I'm not calling the doc for help for the flu, I'm calling for help with sleep. I don't need an anti-biotic, I need sleep.

bong hit and a blow job should put you right out. Just call your brother, and tell Kiwi to start icing up that jaw.

hence why i asked is a different sleep pattern possible for the time being.

are you adverse to taking novel hypnotic sleeping aids?

I'm not sure how I could adjust my sleep schedule and still fit with work and life.

I've sworn off of prescription sleep aids my whole life, but I'm in such a bad way now that I'm willing to get a small script for some. Just enough to get my sleep schedule fixed.

the adictiveness of sleep aids is usually subjective - some people feel they can't get to sleep without them and will then stay on them... it's more of a personal need than actual dependency. i keep sleeping pills in my room if i ever have massive trouble getting to sleep.. but i may only take one once a month or so. they're pretty good for this reason.

i know i won't sleep the day before exams, so i'll try and sleep in the morning (before doing work) and again in the late afternoon. it fucking ruins your day, but is probably the only way to get back to a somewhat decent sleep cycle. i will need sleeping pills to fix that.

try novel hypnotic like Zopiclone in it's weakest form (7.5mg I think). half the pill is sufficient to get you over to sleep as it requires only a very small activity to work. it's an odd one though, as sometimes it works fantastically, sometimes it doesn't at all. the best way to work with it is to get into bed right after taking it, with no stimulus, but you should feel quite rested after even a little sleep. grogginess leaves quite quickly in me (i take a similar pill), but if i snooze after i have woke up initially i could probably sleep on. easiest way to do things is to get up the second you wake, and walk it off.
