and those lazy highway workers. we don't need no stinkin highways.

and i'll inspect my own meat for safety thank you very much.

government is SUCH a waste.

But hey, you've only worked hard and sacrificed and saved and invested to get what you have, it only makes sense you give most of it away to the people who don't have jobs and won't better their life in anyway and just sit around waiting for the government check to come in every month. We need people like you so we continue to have money for people like them.

Yeah, never mind the fact that I also support other people that don't get enough of this "magical" government aid to live off of that a large portion of the 40-something-percent of my salary goes to.

God forbid I want to enjoy having a little left over to get pizza once a week.

I don't have a fancy car, we only have one car.

I don't have a huge TV, probably smaller than most people's these days, and it's 7 years old.

I don't go out to dinner more than once a week, if that.

I don't eat lunch out.

I don't eat breakfast out.

I don't go to expensive concerts or shows, or even movies.

I live in a really modest house, ask Spange.

So if that's the wonderous "rich" lifestyle you're after......I dunno what to say.

Because those people don't have jobs. Did you even read my post? If someone has a job, yes pay them, it's the ones on lifetime welfare that I have a problem with.

They could always build roads right the first time, and then no, we wouldn't need as much money and effort dumped into maintenance.

I don't think anyone mentioned the USDA

I'm sure it could be done more efficiently.

welfare is less than 1 perfect of the federal budget. most of the money you pay in taxes goes to things you support. stop bitching about having to pay taxes when you reap unknown benefits every day.

also:
Myth: People on Welfare Become Permanently Dependent on the Support

Fact: Movement off Welfare Rolls Is Frequent

A prevalent welfare myth is that women who received AFDC became permanently dependent on public assistance. Analyses indicate that 56 percent of AFDC support ended within 12 months, 70 percent within 24 months, and almost 85 percent within 4 years (Staff of House Committee on Ways and Means, 1996). These exit rates clearly contradict the widespread myth that AFDC recipients wanted to remain on public assistance or that welfare dependency was permanent. Unfortunately, return rates were also high, with 45 percent of ex-recipients returning to AFDC within 1 year. Persons who were likely to use AFDC longer than the average time had less than 12 years of education, no recent work experience, were never married, had a child below age 3 or had three or more children, were Latina or African American, and were under age 24 (Staff of House Committee on Ways and Means, 1996). These risk factors illustrate the importance of structural barriers, such as inadequate child care, racism, and lack of education.

:waw:

I'm not talking entirely about welfare.

I don't support most of what the money goes for, so don't put words in my mouth.

It's still not remotely fair that I pay that high of a percentage, and I still think it's disgusting that people do think it's fair.

that's like 1% of the populace at best...how about the zillion other people that compose the legitimate working middle class which you and I are both members of?

I still don't think Chikken should have to pay more money to the government just cause he makes more then me. He sure doesn't receive more benefits from them then I do, so he shouldn't have to pay more.

kiwi was.

everyone who makes what you make pays that percentage. that's fair. we all share the burden of providing the services we all use. those who can afford to pay more, do, because otherwise we couldn't afford the services we have.

you got a problem with that, deal with it on an issue by issue basis. don't start asking for across the board tax cuts just so we can run a higher deficit.

no one on this forum will pay more of anything...if you're clearing 500k+ I think you have a little breathing room to cough up a point or 2 more on your taxes...it will not impact the bottom line of people making that much

 @ "find my buffalo" money...

geiger always talked about HIS taxes. he drives on the same roads, same libraries, same poelice. and on a $56M contract, he paid almost 25M in taxes.

find my buffalo!!!

it's the only way to raise enough money to provide the benefits we all share.

at some point we all decided to share. sometimes when you share you give more than others, but by pooling our money we all get more than if we had to privide for ourselves individually.
