The Dong Thread

I remember once, shortly after bringing ChikkenPup home. We're watching TV and hear this awful ripping sound, and there's ChikkenPup smiling broadly while spraying out of her butt towards the door.

Then there was the time we went to Denver, her first night there she did in her crate what you describe there - though there may have been vomit involved too, and that was the last night she ever spent in a crate

Does she go on the plane with you?

I wish greyhounds crapped Skittles.

I feel really bad for your doggus though, you know it can't help itself, and that can't be a comfortable thing right now. :( With this much diarrhea, you have to be careful that it has enough water because dehydration happens fast and can be really bad :(

What the heck kind of food did you switch to? I have a couple of cats that can only eat a certain type of canned cat food because of severe grain allergies... the cats have the same poo problems, and it's projectile poo too so somehow these 7 pound cats manage to get poo on the walls, on doors, and all sorts of disgusting other places. DIS GUS TING

It's called California Natural. http://www.californianaturalpet.com/ They sell it at all the pet stores out here. If this continues I'll have to switch brands of course. I don't want a distressed pet.

For California Natural Pet Food, it's what's missing that matters. With our natural dog food, cat food, puppy food and dog treats, you'll never find fillers, by-products or artificial preservatives that can cause allergic reactions or stomach issues in your pets. Just wholesome, unrefined pet food ingredients that are as pure and natural as the way Mother Nature intended.

what's more important than what it is eating now is what it is used to eating.

if you want to stop it right away, switch back to the previous food immediately.

then, in a couple days when things have settled down, mix 90% old food with 10% new food.

then 80-20. 70-30 etc.

You're right. I think I would change the mix once a week, it seems the doggus is pretty sensitive.

actually... theac covered this earlier in his encyclopedic post:

These dogs are used to regimented diet, so you have to be mindful of how much you feed them. 1 cup of food in the morning and 1.5 c at night is a good rule of thumb. You should always be able to see their ribs. If their ribs disappear, you're feeding them too much. Find out what the rescue is feeding them and feed them that at first. Because of their metabolism, they don't take changes in diet easily. You have to wean them over. If you want to feed them something other than what the rescue is feeding them, that's cool, just make sure it isn't cheap food and you blend it with their old food for a week or so until they're used to it. Otherwise you could come home to a literal shitstorm.

I still have a bit of what they were giving him at home, but when I put it in his bowl he won't eat it. He sniffs and walks away. When I give him the California Natural he can't eat it fast enough.

if you gave him cake he'd eat it too, hungry or not. that wouldn't help with the shits though.

he'll eat his old food if he's hungry. if he doesn't eat anything after a few minutes pick it up and put it back out for him at the next dinnertime (assuming it's hard food). get him back on the old stuff for a couple days to let his digestive track settle down.

or you can just stick with the new stuff and hope it sorts itself out in a few days.
