Or they could give it up for adoption.

Yes of course! Unfortunately the population that abortion would be beneficial for are also doing drugs while pregnant. Drugs, cigs, and anything damaging the human and fetal body should be a criminal offense, imo. But well...

Notice how I didn't quote the rape part? ;)

I don't disagree with you there.

Medical conditions are another case where I feel it should be up to the PARENT to decide.

What pisses me off are the "o crap, teehee, I'm pregnant and my parents will kill me" or "this will ruin my career" or "I'm still in college, blablabla" people that do this like they'd order a pizza.

Most of them live to regret it, and that really makes adoption the healthier option.

Regardless, it's not like McCain would ever push that hard in office to get rid of it. It just irks me when it's used as a campaign issue for both Republicans and Democrats since I believe, like pIot, it's a state's rights issue.

Yeah, people do make mistakes, but when they are using it as a form of birth control thats when the system is being abused. :hs:

which part did we rape beyond the use of birds?

we want to drill .01% of it. that gonna kill all the birds? its not like we're salting the damn ground and created guysers to spray the birdies.

Instead of drilling, why can't we be adult about the situation and look for other energy sources that are less damaging to the environment. Oil means more pollution coming out of our cars... come on...

I agree. How about everyone stop living 2 hours from where they work.

I'm pretty sure industrial air pollution isn't the only concern here. Other factors such as watershed transportation of mercury and other toxic substances are a bit more dramatic in their effects. That would involve birds, mammals, fish, etc. Not to mention the fact that yet more pristine wilderness is now fucked up forever. I don't think they're anticipating a 20-year life cycle on these projects.

Also, why? ANWR oil won't solve anything, or even substantially help. So why bother? Give some of the money to me instead. I'd like to buy a house.

You live in Texas, you should be able to buy a 3,000 sqft house for what I paid for my used car.

while AGREED, those alternative energy sources are still a ways off... why not do something to temporarily help out the problem until we come up with viable mass marketable alternative means of energy? Why do people seem to think that if we keep pushing this alternative energy thing that all of a sudden tomorrow someones gonna be like "I FIGURED IT OUT! TURNS OUT IT WAS PICKLES AND MUSTARD, WHO KNEW?" and all of the energy problems will be solved. It's gonna take time, even when a solution is found, gonna take time to implement. So why not supplement the current system until we make it to that day?

and why do the same people that seem to be against drilling, seem to be against Nuclear power too?

Wind power and solar can only supplement our power consumption... and while I agree we need to do alot more to encourage using these things, it's not the answer.

I was reading an article about google today where they are going to make datacenters on barges and anchor them out in the ocean, using the water for cooling and the waves for energy generation to help the power costs. The article also mentioned that 1% of the earth's current power consumption is running servers/routers/the internet in general. Hrm.

pristine wilderness? you saw those pictures right?

are people all up in arms about drilling in the desert becuase it's untouched by humans and it might effect the reptile population?

the fact that you think that place is a pristine wilderness, IS the problem. someone has you convinced it's yellowstone national park that can easily be fucked up... instead it's a wasteland, guess what happens when we leave it? goes back to being a wasteland.

You act like that same demographic already avail themselves of the right to an abortion.

That's like saying I have no money and all by bills are due but I get my inheritance in 10 years so instead of cutting back on my spending and budget my money until then I'm going to continue to borrow money and get myself further in debt because I'm lazy.

Throw in a precipitous drop in property value.

90% of the reasons and benefits of living in the burbs are gone. Most of the major US cities are seeing people flock back the the cities in growing numbers. It only makes sense. Why spend extra money and waste more of your life commuting when there really isn't a reason to anymore.

I will admit though that Dallas is a bad example that is the poster child for suburban sprawl. There is no really way to fix that place other than a nice hurricane.

Or we could just leave it how it is hoping some magical 'green' solution appears. in the meantime people run out of money becuase they can't afford gas (not so much me and you, but the lower income class), so they get desperate and start shooting up gas stations, robbing people, etc. becuase, in bad economies, that's what happens. look at russia.

There's sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many things we can do to curb our energy use... the gov't is taking the right step in doing so with all of it's facilities. The private sector is getting more and more into it for commercial buildings, etc..

we could also build a light rail system interconnecting all major cities and could be powered partly by wind generators... could get us out of supporting the damn airlines who are anything but eco-friendly.

could also start building homes properly again. ever been in a mansion from the early 1800s? they were set up for airflow, the windows were pointed in the right direction, etc. so they were all somewhat energy efficient depending on the season and time of day.

we could also all live in alot smaller houses.

could also take shorter showers. (ahem... that's directed at every chick i've ever dated... probably most on here. dharma probably doesn't bathe so she's the exception).

your 30 year old AC unit is an energy hog too, same with your water heater and furnance. people need to update that shit to newer energy efficient stuff, but they can't drop 5 grand when the old stuff still works, even though they'll save tons in bills. why? becuase americans can't save, they can't plan for anything more than 2 weekends away.

drilling isn't the answer, but like many other things, it'll help and unlike what many may think, isn't going to rape the environment.

becuase for some people, the dream of working from home lives on.

edit: kansas city is the same size has NYC landwise... we literally have entire farms within the city limits and only a fraction of the population of NYC... it's borderline retarded.

ridiculous suburban sprawl plagues the entire midwest.
