Not so much complaining as I am searching...

True story.

Yes. Bwahahaha ha.

What most people dont do though, is live like they are making 50k when they are making 100. There are a lot of little stupid things you can do to make a little bit of money last forever. Cable, impulse shopping, eating out (whether mcdonalds or going to the movies), sweets, soda, games, renting or buying movies etc. Thrift store clothing, and you repair them. You can live without it.

I dont even leave the house with my money unless I know exactly what Im buying. I bring a $2 bill and my license to work.

I've heard of people doing just that. Making 100k and living on a small portion of that and then having the ability to retire at an incredibly young age.

Why don't they teach this stuff in school?

in your mind, yes. in many others', no.

mind you, i'm not complaining about others' lifestyles, or our own. we have made our choices, and we are very proud of those choices. thankfully, it is still a choice. i could always stop what i'm doing, go back to work and make more money. and i'm certainly not criticizing those who have high-paying jobs and make choices accordingly. i'm simply using all of what i've said as a way to back my perception of modern america. has it not gotten out of control? is there a, er, PRICE to the nownownowbiggerbetterfastermoremoremore we are so accustomed to?
Totally out of control. Everyone wants something now, and everything is a means to an end.

Like the so unpopular (more popular here than in other places Ive seen) idea of being a non working wife, with or without kids. It is completely foreign concept to actually have fun or like 'working' at your own home or for the non monetary benefit of your family. Dharma called it a status symbol which is something that wouldnt have even crossed my mind o_O

Appearance isnt money, culture isnt education, you are not your job etc. People are using material goods as the end all be all measure of what makes a person.

Honestly, teaching common sense in school would be so American. >.>

THANKS APRIL YOU ARE MAKING LIVING IN A COMMUNE SEEM APPEALING

More back on what the economy thing. I blame cheap transport. Everything you used to but to live was made at least in the same state because the cost of transport was higher than the cost of small production and specialized workers. If again the cost of transport starts to outstrip the cost of having a large group of skilled trade workers in every major city; production will redistribute as necessary.

Also the emphasis that everyone can have or even needs a degree has devalued the worth of higher education to the point of uselessness. Everyone says a 4 yr degree is useless, well, it is but not because IN THE WORLD OF TOMORROW everyone is smarter. It is because the requirements plummet so they can have higher enrollment. The place I work for recently took the general education math, i.e. Math 101, from an intro to calculus and analytic geometry curriculum to an algebra and intro to trigonometry one.

All this while being told for their 'mental health' that absolutely nothing is their fault their entire lives and having a system that enforces almost no personal accountability...

Im just saying yo.

IN the future you all may visit me on my estate and we'll watch the serfs bring in summer wheat >.> <.<

....

The rest of the stuff I completely agree with.

they really, really, REALLY should. it's more inportant than trig! (i don't think i've used that EVER in my life. :p)
They did when I went to school :p
but back then, they weren't aware of readin', writin' and 'rithmatic. :fly: ;)

I also think they should teach common courtesy and phone skills.
it's sad, but you're right. this is where lack of parenting in the past has caught up to the present...if no one was taught these things at home, they aren't teaching their own kids now.
Or maybe the parents should teach it to their children!!!

le shock.
again...so many people are uneducated by way of finances, respect and values, they aren't even ABLE to teach their kids. i have even thought about going back to cash, just so my kids know what the stuff is. all they see is plastic, whether it be debit or credit. spangelet is starting to learn about money -- the hows and whys -- and i don't know if she truly gets it because i always pay the same, no matter if it's $5 or $500. it's all just a swipe of the card, right? :(

if i didn't have children, i would already be there. for serious.

Naw, not her, poor thing. Cellucci.

And I added a 0 by accident, should be $70000
this makes me feel waaaaaaaaaay better. :fly:
