my favorite radio station has a lunch hour that changes themes every day. a theme is given, and listeners call/email in with ideas and requests. http://www.929davefm.com/ "radio-free lunch"
anyway, today's theme is songs inspired by literature (prompted by the decatur book festival this weekend ).
i came up with three so far, but i wondered what y'all could come up with. (and you can listen live to the station if you so desire.)

"Tear in Your Hand" - Tori Amos (about Neil Gaiman)
"Virginia Woolf" - Indigo Girls
"Hey Jack Kerouac" - 10,000 Maniacs

what are the songs you can come up with?

Shakespeare's Sister - The Smiths

Scarborough Fair by Simon and Garfunkle

Its close to being word for word was the original ballad was. I think the ballad was from the 17th or 18th century.

I think I heard that Captain & Tenille's "Do That to Me One More Time" is based on Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment.

Iron Maiden - Rime of the Ancient Mariner
Metallica - Call of Kthulu (Lovecraft is literature right?)
- The Thing That Should Not Be
