When I was in my artic survival training class before they'd let me go up to the oil fields in Prudhoe bay this spring, the instructor had these pictures up.

you sure? they guy just emailed them a couple days ago. must have been a different guy in the same situation.

I would not mind doing a fe years as a guy on an oil rig.

they work 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off. 12 hour days while on, 7 days a week so you make lots of OT. On the north slope of alaska you dont have your own vehicles or anything, you stay in their exploration facilities dorms, have all you can eat food made by world class chefs so it's all absolutely f'ing delicious, gyms, theatre, etc. in the facilities. In other words, you don't spend a dime for the 2 weeks you're up there.

You're responsible for your airfare up to anchorage, they take it from there. which seems to be no big deal becuase most people live in the lower 48, I met dudes that live in ohio, new jersey, texas, washington, oregon, florida, etc. while I was up there.

I also met a young dude that has no home. every 2 weeks he's off traveling to somewhere different to blow his paycheck.

overall, it's not a bad gig when you're young and single. or old and unhappily married.

i was juuuust thinking that. i love to watch that crab show thing on whatever channel (edit: i used to watch it when i had tv :()...deadliest catch? those kinds of jobs intrigue me...don't know why!

let's go dreamie!!

Best job I ever had was auditing antenna sites in the Rockies for Motorola.

right out of college. They gave me a Bronco 4x4, a crapton of forest service maps, an expense account, and the general location of over 100 antenna sites throughout the rockies.

My job was to 4WD up to mountain tops all over and do a fast 1 hour audit for each site. The stuff I saw..

man.
