Ikea's Customer Service sucks!

keep in mind that the people who are bitching at you also aren't parents. i understand, and you didn't come here to be bitched at because of your personal financial choices.
bottom line is that you had a bad experience with a lot of inexperienced people and a lot of wasted time. you are smart to write the company...i write companies all the time (and i try to balance the bad with good), and i often hear back, which makes me happy. maybe this time, if you do have the cash, go ahead and pay as much as you can so you don't pay interest on it (or pay enough off where you can pay the rest off next month.)
keep us posted on what happens, and please stop in every so often so we don't feel alone and abused. :( :fly:

I wasn't bitching at her. Actually my first post I was trying to be helpful and it was taken completely wrong which makes me think that she has been told this before.

However, child rearing is a choice and you choose to spend your money that way. Which is fine, for you.

RUNS AWAY

Honestly if yo bother to get names of techninican number or ask to speak directly to a manager and get full contact informaiton before you get off the phone things seem to go a bit better.

also craigslist's free section somethings have people giving away perfrectly good stuff.

and i was giving YOU a hard time. :fly:
yes, children are (should be!) a choice...i'm not criticizing you for not having them. i commend you for not having them if you don't want them, and/or being responsible enough to avoid them like the plague till if and when you're ready to. but children do cost money, and sometimes it rocks the money boat to put their needs first. and yes, you should consider that before kids and it still means you have to be responsible and all that...i know i know. i was sympathizing with higirlfry. :)

I know this is foolish, but what ever happened to waiting till you had cash in hand to buy stuff? I mean, with an interest bearing checking account, you can actually end up ... nevermind. I know this won't catch fire here.

So you're saying that I should turn down a 12 month interest free loan and instead take money out of an interest bearing account?

I know this doesn't hold true for everyone, but people seem to think that credit card debt is bad, when indeed (much like a home mortgage, which everyone wants to pay off way too soon) it can be very, very good. Before interest rates tanked, I know some people who were earning an extra 5-10k a year on credit cards.

is there an annual fee for the IKEA card? if so that loan is not so "free."

Plus having too many revolving credit accounts open can hurt your overall image if you ever have to get a larger loan like a mortgage or auto loan right?

No fee. Sometimes it is a bad idea to have too many credit cards, but pay over time same as cash deals that some places like Ikea and Home Depot have are not terrible ideas. It all just depends on how much you are spending and your personal financial plan.

Right now Dan and I are planning on buying new flooring for our entire house. We have the money, but we may go with one of those plans and leave the money in the investment account for the time being. Our credit is pretty good and won't take a terrible hit from an extra credit card.

I also have the money to pay off my car right now, but I choose not to because it's 0% interest.

Opening credit cards because you think they are same as cash is BAD.

Untrue. Assuming there is a fee, just cancel the card before the fee comes due...

And having unsecured (open) credit does not negatively affect your fico score. Having a high debit to income ratio and/or high balance to limit on cards does affect your fico. Never go above about 40% utilization on a credit card to keep your score up.

Please explain the problem with a 12 month interest free loan. If you have the money in the bank, you'd be silly to use it rather than the free loan...

Fucks with your credit score. I'm telling ya.
