i don't oppose to responsible, educated, intelligent, reasonable people having children either but we all know that many, MANY more who don't have these qualities and have kids...and isn't that where many of the problems regarding parents/children/welfare/education/etcetc fall?
my point is that, yes, i can agree to guns in the hands of people who are trained, educated, well-balanced, responsible, and reasonable, but just how many of those with guns are just that, and how do you prevent "the others" from getting them? you can't.
i am not putting emotion into an inanimate object because a gun can't shoot itself. someone decides to set the thing off...it's how and why that someone decides to do it that worries me.

Not even close, and my argument isnt utilitarian. We can safely assume you missed the point. Showing again that reading comprehension is practically non existent. Maybe if I could make the same point with TV I could get it across better.

I am in no way scared of guns but I do not advocate that every idiot on the planet carries one, myself included...you fail to make any point and your condescension is futile like always

Things would be swelly
If guns were made of jelly.
We could shoot them at bread
For delicious casualties in bed.

All that being said, I'm not opposed to well educated, responsible adults owning and carrying guns. It is our right and there are good reasons for it, although one of those good reasons doesn't really stand up since I seriously doubt we as a country could overtake our government/military with any amount of fire power we could muster up. Ultimately it comes down to freedom, and I'm all for it.

What is about the civvies that make them think that all of the members are mind numbed robots who cannot think for them self. First off when you join the military you take an oath. The primary directive of that oath is to uphold and defend the Constitution of the U.S.. This is drilled into you’re your head whether you are an officer, warrant officer, non commissioned officer or enlisted personnel.

Secondly as Nuremberg has shown the military that you cannot use the excuse of “I was only following orders”. The UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice) was amended after WWII to allow the refusal of unlawful orders. This does however put the person in a Catch-22 situation. But at least the person’s conscience is clear
.
Thirdly most of the members of the military believe in the Classical Liberalism of our Founding Fathers. I don’t see them turning on their fellow citizens. They would for the most part quit en masse. Growing up as a military brat I thought I knew what is like to serve. While I knew more than the Average Joe off of the street it wasn’t until I joined myself that I completely understood the military.

I don't think I was suggesting that at all. I think a revolution in this country would be a very complicated issue and since now is the first time I've actually really thought about what would happen, I really don't have much of a full position on it. I simply resent the idea you think I was suggesting that I believe (or that many civilians believe) that all people in the military are robots. I am willing to bet that there are a lot of higher up officers that are corrupt bastards though.

While there are some officers that care about the political game then they do about the military. They have a tendency to be a the 0-6 level and above. Yes there are corrupt people in the military just like you would in any large organization. The military is usually good about weeding them out.

if gay marriage were legalized the military could wed out the bad apples too.

You are 100% correct.

The problem is all the laws that have been or could be possibly created are only going to restrict the educated/responsible/reasonable people.

Crazy people, people hell bent on using that particular tool for something nefarious just don't care about laws or consequences - obviously.

You ignore what is said. Then make a point and justify it by talking at other people. BORING
