Texas school district allows teachers to carry guns

oh come on man, you can't be that blonde...the numbers are low but to simply say it has never happened is complete BS

first article that came up on google for ccw + homicide

http://www.hoover.org/publications/policyreview/3574822.html

The paragraph directly following also says:

The Dade County police also recorded the following incidents involving defensive use of licensed concealed firearms: two robbery cases in which the permit holder produced a firearm and the robbers fled; two cases involving permit holders who intervened to attempt to stop a robbery, but the robbers were not apprehended (and no one else was hurt); one robbery victim whose gun was seized by the robber; a man who shot a pit bull that was attacking him; two cases of a citizen capturing a burglar; three cases of a burglar who was frightened off but not captured; one case of thwarted rape; and a bail bondsman who fired two shots at a fleeing bail-jumper wanted for armed robbery. There were no reports of permit holders shooting innocent people by accident.

He was probably thinking of the fact the no one with a class 3 licence (machine guns) has ever committed a crime (except one incident involving a cop who managed to get forged papers approved by the ATF).

one man is not a jury

crossfire is dangerous
Justice is what you are attempting to talk about. One person does not dispense justice (unless it's traffic court). Just in this case not referring to the abstract notion of fairness in philosophy but the legal system of criminal justice.

Criminal justice is explicitly for the purpose of enforcing criminal laws in a neutral manner. It controls crime and maintains social order (in theory) by public example and disinterested redress of wrongs.

THAT IS NOT WHAT CCW IS FOR

Stop being ignorant. The entire point of protecting yourself or others is that there wont be a trial IF YOU'RE DEAD. Most self defense laws, that is the part that keeps you from being prosecuted from murder, have specific legal requirements usually (but not limited to):

That you have every right to defend yourself in the face of clear and present danger. Though in most states you have to attempt to escape first.

But not in your own home.

Commentaries on the Laws of England said:
And the law of England has so particular and tender a regard to the immunity of a man's house, that it stiles it his castle, and will never suffer it to be violated with immunity...
that a man may assemble people together lawfully... in order to protect and defend his house...

Depending on state may not even have to retreat first:

Something v. Brown said:
detached reflection cannot be demanded in the presence of an uplifted knife

Texas is the only state where you can shoot people stealing property (and you have to prove that it was the only way to recover it without risking death or serious injury).

So the jury argument, never comes into play. It isnt even in the same field of law. It is like comparing apples and seashells.

As to crossfire, the first thing everyone learns about guns is to know what's behind your target. That and bullets are very small, youd be shocked how many actually dont hit people. They figure in all of WW2 only 1% of expended small arms fire ever hit a tactical target. That is why anti personelle explosives are cheaper statistically when YOU ARE TRYING to rack up a body count.

can I ask a completely sincere question of the gun people? what inspired the moment in your life when you decided "I need a gun"? I ask this question with no malice or ridicule....entirely empirical line of questioning

The world is not a pretty place and I want to exercise my right to protect.

I started shooting .22 rifles when I was 10 years old in cub scouts and have been hooked since. There has never been any point where I thought "Hmm, I need a gun".

Honestly I don't need one. The likelihood of me being mugged, robbed, or killed is actually substantially less than the odds of those things happening to YOU. But I carry anyway, why? Why the hell NOT? I've got a right to, I'm of sound(ish) mind and ultra-sound body, I'm well educated on the subject, and moderately (not as well as I'd like to be) trained.

Funny how we all take things like that away from cub scouts.

You learned your love of guns there, I learned my love of nature in general there, dbzeag learned his love of cocks in his mouth there...

such an awesome organization.

Keep in mind, to get a CCW, you gotta go through gun training. Maybe the solution is to make that training alot more rigorous?

Either way, any trained person with a gun carrying it 24/7 is safer than one untrained jackass with access to one for 5 minutes.

IIRC Florida requires you to have less than 5 hours of training :fly:

We have some very lax laws when it comes to purchasing or carrying a gun. We also have our own section on Fark :p

I love going out to the range but I do feel there should be stricter training given and a better system in place. Throwing more guns in peoples pockets doesn't sit right with me, no matter how I look at it. There just has to be a better way to work it out on both sides of the fence. If tough restrictions didnt work, try putting greater weight on the manufacturer to R&D a viable finger print system on ALL guns. Doesnt have to be that but at least look at all possible alternatives, not NRA or the highway.

Is there any reason why these threads always turn out to be a battle?
