So chim's bike is a little bit wheezy with just him on it. When my fat ass gets on the back, the thing tries way too hard to get to speed. So we are in the market for a new bike. Just for reference, his current bike is a 1994 Kawa Vulcan 500.

Requirements:

1. Able to cruise comfortably at 70mph with a rider on the back (I look dead sexy in black leather). Probably larger than 650cc
2. Short/small enough for a 5'4" frame to control :fly:
3. Decent gas mileage, can have a 200mi range.
4. Under $9000

I am thinking chim is looking for a classic cruiser, you know every fucking piece of shit that comes from Harley  I don't mind that styling, I just don't like Harley.

Here are the choices I came up with:

Kawa Vulcan 900 Classic Custom
Kawa Vulcan 900 Classic
Suzuki Boulevard S50
Suzuki Boulevard S83
Suzuki Boulevard C50 Black
Suzuki Boulevard C50
Suzuki Boulevard M50
Suzuki Boulevard M50 Black
Honda Shadow Spirit 750
Honda Shadow Spirit
Honda Shadow Saber <-- ahead in the running right now
Yamaha V Star 1100 Classic
Yamaha V Star 1100 Custom
Yamaha V Star Classic
Yamaha V Star Custom
Triumph Bonneville
Triumph Bonneville T100
Triumph America
Triumph Speedmaster

So, what do you all think?

I don't know shit about bikes, but I shoot pool with a guy who's been a biker for the better part of the last 40 years...he's had a lot of harleys but currently owns a Honda Valkyrie and says it is by far his favorite bike he's ever owned. Don't know if that helps but there it is anyways.

He should see how he fits on it first, but I'd recommend the Honda Shadow Aero. It'll keep his interest longer than the Shadow 750, and is has an almost maintenance free shaft drive. The 750-- which is a fine bike and one which I owned for several years-- has a chain final drive which requires tensioning and oiling at upsettingly frequent service intervals. Oh, and it costs way under 8k, though I'd recommend the addition of an engine guard and sissy bar.

Edit: Oh geez... they nerfed the Aero at some point. It's only a 750 now. Get the Sabre.

Well, the Sabre has shitastic paint options, though :( Looking at Aero, too.

What's that custom bike with the helicopter turbine engine? That should get your tubby ass up to speed. (I kid, I kid)

The more research I have done, the more I am leaning to a Suzuki Boulevard M50. Tubeless tires, shaft drive ( :fly: I said shaft), sophisticated suspension, 50mpg, power and weight capacity for two, more agile for chim when he commutes to work. Just add bags, gel seats, seatback and cruise for fun.

In stock form, Harley's are actually quiet - it's the fatheads that put on un-baffled "mufflers" that make 'em tooth shattering loud.

Same goes for the sportbikers that slap on those GP style exhausts :fly:

I hate SchmilK's Harley for just this reason... it's embarrassing when he has it running in the neighborhood. Maybe he'll sell it

My motorcycle is big, obnoxiously loud, looks and runs less well than it might, and makes a mess everywhere it goes*. It's like me in machine form.

*actually, I fixed the most recent oil leak. You really gotta scrub the shit out of the drain bolts before reinstalling them. Any schmutz in the threads will just wick that shit to the underside of your oil-pan.
