So there was a pretty bad thunderstorm here last night. I was counting one thousands and literally the flash of light to the sound of thunder was two one thousand away. Today, I went on a service call, where a customer who lives about 1/2mi away had a bad network card in his computer. Turns out the network card was probably friend last Thursday when a different lighting storm hit a transformer on a power pole servicing his neighborhood about 150ft away.
Then last night his mobile home took a direct hit. I showed him the ground where the lightning had hit, nice 1" size hole in the ground directly next to his foundation. Mud on the side of his trailer, rocks thrown around, shattered a glass ornamental sphere he had on a metal stand. Lightning also took out his electric heater, a small tv, some phones, and his car. His car was parked 5' away. Blew out a tire and the battery, so far. He's got the car in the shop. I bet the car will be totaled due to all the electronics being fried. Some how his computer was okay, other than the network card.
Crazy shit. Never seen lightning damage before. The guy and his wife were inside when the lightning hit. There was a window about 1' away from where the lightning hit, and they were inside sitting in chairs next to the window. Oh and their trailer is surrounded by woods too.
