those debit card things work pretty well. since i use debit or credit most of the time anyway it's fine. the only hassle is that at some point if you want to get the full value of the card you need to call and find out what the balance is (number should be on card), then when you make a purchase have them put $13.67 or whatever the balance is on the card, and pay the rest with another card or cash.

wow, I just got a call from one of my aunts in NYC on an internal company line...she just rejoined cnn after being gone 20 years...she's the exec producer of a new show featuring fareed zakaria

Were you called just to break up the fight?

Picked up an APC SU1000 with dead batteries, APC SU1400 UPS with dead batteries, and a docking station for my Thinkpad T41 for $25.00 at the State Public Sale earlier this morning. Replace the batteries in the UPS units for cheap, and basically have brand new UPS units that retail from $300+. I love this state.

Edit: and these batteries were deader than dead. One wouldn't even register any voltage on my multimeter. The 2nd battery in that pack had like 330mV. The other UPS battery pack had one battery at 5.3V and the other at 2.1V.

Well there's your problem.

Rack mounted?

Sadly no, just regular standalone units. No smartslot cards either, but has the smartslot expansion ready.

A couple sales ago I inquired about a pallet of rackmounted UPS units ready for disposal. Told the guy I had money in hand. They sent them off for disposal  Must have been at least 6 rackmounted units, most with cards in them too. The state employees who run this place (I use the term run lightly), each will tell you a different story for items on sale or coming up for sale. Really aggravating.

How do I find out about those state sales?

I'd love to get some of my tax dollars back from the retards who run this state.

And for those that don't know, the State of Maine requires all agencies to only buy from Maine companies. But they don't force you to buy local products too. So you could request a quote for 50 Dell's and pay a "handling fee" to the company so they actually make some money, thus costing the state more money.

to piggyback on that valve, I guess the US gov't has taken heat recently..

the economy and the dollar are sinking fast, yet the gov't OUTSOURCES all kinda' shyte. stuff they buy, services they use, whathaveyou..

wouldn't it make sense to pay AMERICAN companies for goods and services??? and I mean ones that COULD be..

Next one is May 9th. In Augusta, usually 1st or 2nd Friday of the month, one a month. Also note they do Public Auctions, which is different from the sales and on a different day. Usually the larger items go up for auction, like the state police cruisers with 100,000mi on them, foreclosure items, property ceased by the state, DOT dump trucks, stuff like that.

If you are looking for computers items, get there early. There are enough people who know the value of the computer stuff they have and will snatch it up early.

They also have desks, file cabinets, really really disgusting office chairs, and other worthless garbage (floppy disk holders w00h00).

I think that Lou Mcnally guy from Made in Maine did part of a TV show on the Public Sales a couple years ago.
