I have a cavity!!! :(

Meh I'd rather get the tooth yanked than pay for a fake tooth.

then again aside from some cavities that need a refilling( I popped the fillin out long ago) My teeth are fine. then again I do still have all my molars.

OMG I couldn't live with a missing tooth, thats too... weird.

The problem with this is that the surrounding teeth may spread out if a tooth is removed.

What type of tooth filling did you get? I got the epoxy one instead of the amalgum one, as they look better (more white in color vs metal). The epoxy is "safer" than the metals, if you believe those conspiracy theories. Epoxy supposedly doesn't last as long as the amalgum. My dentist said anywhere from 5 to 10 years it might last. I don't smoke or drink soda, so that helps out a lot on the teeth.

I hadn't gone to the dentist in three years and then finally went and found that I had my first cavity, in one of my lower molars I think. Cost $140, only $20 more than the amalgum. That was a couple years ago. I had food a few hours later, but I don't think I had any hard food for a couple days, just to be sure. I'm trying to be more regular with my dentist visits, like once a year. He recommends every six months, but it now costs $100 for a cleaning or $120 for a cleaning and x-rays. That's a lot of money every six months.

Ack, no insurance?

Yup. Self-employed for the lose. :( I just have prescription drugs + lab work + catastrophic health insurance, which is a large deductable. Roughly $200 a month. Cheapest I could find, through MEGA Life/Health Insurance CO through my NASE membership.

I think they used epoxy. There was a syringe of substance they used, then they "cured" it, so I guess it was epoxy. My filling was $71.

From what my insurance agent said, Maine is one of four states that requires all health insurance companies to give you insurance, regardless of pre-existing conditions. So you could have Cancer, being treated in Maine, decide to get new health insurance, and new insurance company cannot deny you for any reason.

So this has driven all insurance companies, offering individual HMO insurance, out of Maine. Plus the governor has some stupid state health insurance program through Anthem, which drives the cost of health insurance of all Anthem insurance subscribers up.

I previously had Anthem, but it got to be around $800 every three months, which I just couldn't afford anymore. And it was a $10000 deductible, with no prescription health, or anything else. A "barebones" health insurance package essentially.

Wow, you almost want to get a second job for 20 hours a week for the benefits alone.

We offer "free" insurance for our consultants here.

Did the dentist use a UV light to "cure" the epoxy? If so, then it was probably epoxy. Also, did the dentist make you bite down on a piece of paper so he could grind down the filling so your teeth would bite properly?

You should be okay on food, just stay away from hard food for a day or two, just to be safe. My dentist also said I should stay away from eating ice, or anything especially hard as long as I have the filling, due to chipping or knock out the filling.

Maine supposedly has the highest rates of job related injuries and deaths, so that gives the insurance companies another reason to stick it to us.

I'm debating getting a second job just to make ends meet. Unfortunately most of the part-time jobs don't offer any benefits, or even buy into a company insurance plan.

Yeah they did. Ok. Soft things for me for a while.

I hate dentists.

I went to one a couple of years ago and I got a root canal, and a crown. I went back 6 months later when the freakin thing FELL OFF MY TOOTH and had to get another crown to replace it. Now here I am and the freakin crown has chipped so it's like bare metal, the porcelein has come off and I know I have cavaties in other teeth.

I think I need a new dentist :(

edit; I've never been able to spell porceleian or whateverdafrakitis

What do you do for a living?
