So I was just into a pretty long conversation with a friend about video games and experiencing it to the fullest. I have known for awhile now that I am in desperate need of RAM upgrading but have not really worked in that department of hardware(for gaming at least).

I have an older machine but it works alright for what I use it for and has never given me any, i mean any, major issues.

My computer is an HP 523n Pavilion and besides the video card it is basically stock. It, when I bought it was the "upgraded version" and it had 512 instead of the old older version that had like 128 or some crap.

My question is how much is it going to cost me to upgrade the RAM and what type should I be looking at for the best cost effiency but yet good for gaming?

Oh and if anyone has an old 512 pc2100 laying on there floor that they would like to donate, that would be cool too :fly:

If you dont care about my questions, what do you have in your machine?

I was going to make a thread like this a few days ago and thought "hey, no one is going to send me RAM" :(

I reallly want to play NWN. I bought it an everything.

since you asked, I currently use this: CORSAIR XMS 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory 2-3-3-6 latency.

I might also have some old 266mhz memory laying around, i'll look tonight. Do you know how much your motherboard will support? What is your current configuration... 1 512mb chip, 2 256s, any available slots? if you have 2 256s and no available slots then sending another 256 would not be useful.

Mine is a single 512mb with I think only 1 available slot after reading the reviews of my computer. But I coulda SWORN that i had 4 slots with 3 available.

You might want to look in there and be sure. And wonko reiterated the other question I asked above...do you know the max the mobo will support? You can figure this out by booting the computer, going to start, programs, accessories, system tools, and then sticking your cock in the fan in the back of the computer.

Let me know, thx.

That method sounds wrong, but as I'm rather non-technical, it must be the correct way.

Perhaps its a Dodge.

*rimshot*

That was so funny, it should be legendary. You will all worship this post in the future.

Ironically it is a Dodge (98 Stratus). It's my "get me to work and back and sit in the driveway" car.

I have RAM in the glovebox because after I removed it from my brother-in-law's previous machine when he upgraded I was going to sell it to a local used shop for whatever they would give me for it. They had no need for it, and nor do I, so there it sits. I think it's still there.

Wait were you serious about having RAM in your car or was that a joke that just went over my head? lol.

the only reason I asked, more of a joke than anything, but one of my buddies was like yeah, you can get a stick of 512 for next to nothing cause everyone uses gigs now.
