Way to go Dharma! That is a huge deal. Now you are on the road to financial stability and freedom. Congrats!
It's such a nice feeling to pay something off. Congrats by the way. My only bit of advice would be to use that $240/month to service any car loan or other debt you might have and get it paid off as well.
Debt sucks...house debt, not so much as I'm gonna be paying for a place to live anyway.
The only recent additional debt I have accrued lately, that I regret, were student loans the wife took out for her masters. I'm not even sure of the amount right now, probably $10k or so. What has me upset is that we could have paid for the program w/ cash, but the wife didn't want to scrimp for a while.
Upside is, I'll get it paid off in a year to 18 months plus I learned a valuable lesson, my wife would not make a good financial planner.

I have never owned a credit card until my company gave me one for travelling expenses for work. I can see how people could get easily roped into a mess they can't get out of with them.
i rarely carry cash around and pretty much pay for everything with my credit card - I do this for two reasons, first, I work in the ghetto and if I get jacked I can show the thug I have no cash and he can get pissed and shoot me in the face. the second reason is that as long as I pay my bill off every month I'll maintain my current 750ish credit score
edit: get your own credit card, use it a little and pay it off so you can establish some credit and when you do need a loan for something like a car or house you won't get a shitty rate
That was a long way to go for you just to brag about your credit score.i rarely carry cash around and pretty much pay for everything with my credit card - I do this for two reasons, first, I work in the ghetto and if I get jacked I can show the thug I have no cash and he can get pissed and shoot me in the face. the second reason is that as long as I pay my bill off every month I'll maintain my current 750ish credit score
besides how upside down I am in my car I dont really have much debt although my credit is crap because of all the small things.
50 for old internet
120 for another old internet(different county)
250 sprint bill
200 closed credit card
50 parking ticket
and thats my entire debt, if I only felt like paying them
You know what UF needs? An opposite of the vault where terrible threads are kept for the ages.
Congrats!
I know people in their 30's who are still paying off the debt they racked up with the credit card they got in college
