congrats to NYC

average, dear...if 13 lbs overweight is the avg, that means there are people on the higher side of the avg gaining A LOT more

and on the lower side not gaining as much...

The conclusion is that trans fats cannot be held responsible for the country's obesity problem.

if the avg person is gaining 13lbs from it, how can you say that???...that means some people could be gaining over 100!!

Yes they can. All tests show that they contribute to the problem in a dietarily significant way. Therefore there is shared accountability.

The people consuming the foods and neglecting to exercise are responsible, not the inanimate chemical compounds. Don't blame the spoon for making Oprah fat.

if on AVERAGE, someone gains 13lbs JUST from eating they way they normally do, yet trans fats have been introduced, what is that telling you??? it's not a very hard equation here :p

There's a 5% variation between the transfat and the other... 5% isn't significant

That people need to take responsibility for their weight and eat healthier.

No one has had a double 1/4 pounder shoved down their gullet. People choose to eat that way.

In the public square I have the right to free speech and say whatever I please but this is a privately owned forum and thus subject to the rules and regulations of the proprietor. I'll watch my language just as if I were in your home. :)

It's not about a right to free speech. I'm just saying it looks poorly upon the person who throws around the F bomb every other word. They say it is to express themselves better, but how does saying "fucking this" express themselves in a positive, more believable way?

When it comes down to it... if Person A states their side of the story in an well worded/no bad language way, then Person B rebuttals it with a slew of F bombs even though they have a great point... it's still easier to go with Person A because they sound well rounded and educated as compared to Person B. (I'm NOT AT ALL stating that you are that way.)

I'm not your mother so you can tell me to go to fucking hell now. :fly:

The quarter pounder is sold to us just like any product. Very rarely does anyone ever research what goes into a product.

We know a lot of things are bad for us that the media sales, and that's our choice to partake in it. It's the stuff like trans-fat that isn't on the warning label. Yes it's on the Nutional Value label... but doesn't say how it is bad for you.

Before this thread I couldn't exactly tell you what trans fat is or what it goes in. I like the fact that it is being taken out of food because quite simply it's not a necessity. Who cares if the gov't decided this, if it's better for my health then so be it.

To me, yes. If someone is dropping f-bombs and not making any sense, that's one thing. If their argument is by itself intelligent and concise yet is sprinkled with colorful language is tells me this person is incredibly passionate in their convictions.

I do understand how most people can see it your way, however. It's probably why I make a terrible debator but a great arguer. When you debate you're presenting arguments in a respectful manner. I just like to fight.

it was about 5.5% actually...and you still see nothing wrong with the country being 5.5% fatter on the whole since trans fats were slipped into everything we eat virtually without our knowledge or consent?

Ahhh point taken.

again, you cannot eat every meal at home carefully prepared in a dietetic manner...that's obviously absurd...we live in a society on the go and we've been essentially poisoned/fattened largely(lol) without our consent or knowledge so that big business can make an extra buck...it's predatory!

I care because giving the government the authority to decide what goes into my body is what leads to things like the War on Drugs or blaming Grand Theft Auto for kids slaying their parents. Sure, require McDonald's to label every ounce of every chemical that goes into their food. Require publishing of this information so people can be better informed. But if I read that and still decide that I'd rather pay 99 cents for a double cheeseburger that's 90% trans fat over a $3.99 all beef cheeseburger from the local place then it's my problem.

In language, "fuck" falls into many grammatical categories, making it one of the most versatile words in the English language.

It can be used as a verb, both transitive (John fucked Jane) and intransitive (John and Jane fucked). It can be an active verb (John fucked Jane) or a passive verb (Jane was fucked by John). Or an adverb (Jane is a fucking bastard) and a noun (Jane is a terrific fuck). It can be used as an adjective (Jane is fucking beautiful).

I think the only other word to compare would be shit, but thats another fucking subject all together

I have no problem with that as my general view on the whole thing is that ANY pre-prepared meal or food item is bad for you and as such should only be consumed in careful moderation.

Yes you certainly can. People choose to live constantly on the go. Dude, you're under no obligation to work for a company that requires you to eat on the go, you're under no obligation to drive that wonderful machine of yours, you're under no obligation to live in a nice house in a nice suburb. You choose those things. Other people choose to eat nothing but organic foods and place their dietary needs on a higher priority than driving a fast car. But it's their choice.

it's no different that the govt letting you know that cigs cause cancer...if they have the knowledge it is their duty to inform the public...if trans fat is as bad for you as it seems, it should be plastered all over everything that contains it just like cancer warnings on cigs

Yes they can. All tests show that they contribute to the problem in a dietarily significant way. Therefore there is shared accountability.

No, they don't. The test results from all tests provide inconclusive data, barring a consensus in the research community. Some tests show marked increases in test subject weight, some tests show negligible increases and some tests show no increase in obesity(directly attributable to trans fat content) at all.

I went out and grabbed source material to prove my point. Where's yours?
