Advice The Home Improvement/Automation Thread

I paid for the materials up front.

$10.4k for the materials, still on the hook for $6.6k for the labor, IIRC.
Man I could start a business if cost plus flew here. No one will pay you upfront.

I'm not sure what you got but roofing materials are available, they aren't cheap but they're available if you didn't get something weird.

Awesome deal on some Ryobi gear if you're in that battery system

Although not the most powerful, having a battery powered miter saw is super super handy. Jigsaw is basically a freebie.
This miter saw has been fantastic by the way. Its light enough I can just carry it where needed without effort, and i made about 50-60 cuts without even denting the battery on trim and 2x4 non-nominal the other day.

I was especially impressed that it could power through the 100 year old hard as nails fir studs that I took out without issue. Those things make any saw struggle. Zero issues with power, and the convenience is awesome.

Oh, and its light enough that i can hang it on the pegboard when not in use.

That's crazy awesome.

I've got a DeWalt drill and driver. But I see no need to pay DeWalt prices, as I assume all this stuff is cheaper.
yep. dewalt rarely goes on sale.

It isnt the same quality though. Its technically excellent, but homeowner grade in quality

I'm fine with that. With power tools, I buy most of them from Harbor anyway. If/when they break, that means I used it and buy quality. I have a 15 year old circular saw from them that I'm still waiting to break.

Dewalt is on sale a lot, you just have to look for it, i.e. not Home Depot.

You can also pick up great stuff at pawn shops. Alot of them sell NIB power tools at like half the price they'd be anywhere else.

Idk about the wisdom of getting a mitre saw though. I just never found them super useful and they're a bitch to carry around. Of course the Ryobi probaby isnt as heavy as the Makitas we had.

@fly the stupid rebates for the stupid "inflation reduction act" are so complicated they made a website to help you figure out when to buy what because apparently they think anyone is going to have any money in the next few years and we aren't going to descend into a Mad Max style dystopian future.

Thanks!

At one point, people thought we'd devolve into shit by putting kids in school instead of the farm. Millions of people before and after that era have predicted the same thing. All of them continue to be wrong.

Completely not what I was getting at but ok. (A used Tesla 3 costs more than 10 acres and a farm in NY and the government wants to stop those uppity workers from getting jobs, you disenfranchise an entire generation and send them to war? lol).

Yeah I heard about it on NPR. Probably the only valuable public resource apart from libraries left.

You're babbling again. :p

So I'm finally getting around to putting an outlet on our patio and following this guide:

While it says as long as its protected by a GFCI outlet upstream, I can direct bury UF at 12", would there be anything inherently dangerous putting it in PVC at that depth? Specifically, is there anything weird about UF that would prevent it from ever going in PVC?

No, you can run UF in conduit.

But just to make sure, maybe you should try MMS'ing the electricity to your email first.

You can put it in conduit. Kinda dumb since it's meant to be direct buried but w/e
