Ontopic The new car-seching thread

One was an 04 accord, and an 02 civic. It was a detail shop selling them and I could hear the transmission grinding on one and the other had the new radiator, new fan, new bumper and rattled like crazy. Both were 5k. They wouldnt let me take them out of the lot either so couldnt get them to highway speed.

The cruze was a private sale, manual transmission, new clutch a few years ago, new blower this year. No antifreeze leaks (listed as most common problem). The head looked like it might need a new gasket so I got 800 off the asking price. The lady who owns it had every single service record including oil changes and seemed "organized" for lack of a better word. All the work has been done at the same shop etc. Said she got a new car and only has one parking spot. She also let us test drive it at highway speed and it seemed solid.

We've been looking for about a month and honestly most stuff sells in a few hours. She said she had had a bunch of people look at it but when they saw the american anti theft device they dipped.
Sounds like the right choice. You're not sleeping in this one?

Another busy night last night.

Corolla to-do list:

Fill gear oil (why the fuck does the fill hole have to be on the side of the transmission)
Install air hose from airbox to throttle body
Bolt down battery
Put wheels on
Take off jackstands
Cross fingers

If all goes well, I'll be driving it tonight.

Corollas arent super bad. Kinda tight but logical. My Neon was trash to work on, you had to disassemble half the car to get at anything.

The rear engine mount was the biggest bitch of this whole job.

Probably would have still been the biggest bitch of this whole job if I didn't have to weld it together to get it out of the car. You gotta unhook the other 2 transmission mounts and nudge the engine/transmission around to get the thing in.

The fill hole is up on the side so that you know when to stop filling (when oil starts running out of the filler).

Corolla officially runs and drives.

I'm missing one lug nut, no idea where the damn thing went, so I can't drive it any more than a quick dart around the neighbourhood. Still, I'm pretty fucking happy.

Spent $1300 on a qualified certified used hybrid lithium battery for the Prius last month. Seemed logical to try and crank another year of service out of her. 6 month warranty.
Lucky for me I'm a UselessFurums hit and run expert now so all the "you shoulda dones" will be... well, useless.

Trying to paper over having webers that are 5mm too small (by book value) for this motor by running chokes that are about 10% too big.

Now it's got a big ol' bog when they're moving between the progression holes in the idle circuit to flow from the main jets. The weber's idle circuit has a main hole that's adjustable flow (with a needle that screws in), and then three progression holes farther upstream that get exposed to more airflow as the throttle blade opens.

Thinking that I'll go one step richer on the idle jet, crank the adjustable part pretty much closed, and see how that works. If not, I'm just going to throw it all out, buy RB26 ITBs (which conveniently have weber bolt pattern and bore spacing), and fuel inject this fucknut.

Considering your options are probably $way-too-fucking-much for a genuine Toyota one, or that price for a used one... fuck it, I'd make the same call.
