for some additional info/clarification on lingo:

"live" rounds are any rounds that can be fired. blanks are modified rounds that still have a primer & powder, but the projectile portion is replaced (often with something like paper wadding). even without a situation like a squib load (which is what killed Brandon Lee), a blank can still be deadly - Jon-Erik Hexum accidentally killed himself when he discharged a weapon loaded with blanks at point-blank range against his temple. blanks are used when they want to simulate things like flash, bang, and recoil.

a "cold" gun has no rounds in it capable of being fired (which means no blanks, either). it may be completely empty, or it may contain dummy rounds - these would usually be used when there is no firing going on (so no need for flash/bang/recoil), but when the places rounds would be expected to be are visible, like in a revolver. dummy rounds have no primer or powder. they can still be dangerous when combined with blanks.

i think a person is a bit more responsible than the intoxication involved
just saying, some of my friends have done some crap and said oh i was too drunk and sometimes i dont buy it
Alcohol doesn't change who you are, just lowers your inhibitions.

I think that's too simplistic. If you're a person who normally has great social control but a drug blows your inhibitions out the door, how are you still the same person? Your mind could go strange places and make strange connections it normally wouldn't. An altered state ain't you, babe. BUT you're still responsible when you come down and that could really suck because you really sucked. Your normal self is horrified to hear what you did.:(:waw:

Immi says . . . Drugs are bad . . .

Hope you're ready to see his ass on Fox and OAN for the rest of your life, because he will literally have no other life path allowed him by the GOP.

Hopefully he at least has PTSD and mental anguish over it.
Yeah, its weird.. He clearly seems to have created a dangerous situation where he had no choice but to shoot people. But he's a fucking idiot, so I can't really say it was intentional.

If he were 5-10 years older, I'd definitely say it was intentional, but guys that age do some dumb shit without meaning to.
At the same time, no one forced him to illegally transport firearms to an area in which he could be in personal danger, so kinda... fuck him?

I guess. Back before I knew a whole lot about it, I was totally in the 'fuck him' camp. As I read more, it's a bit more nuanced.

I don't know that I see a lot of grey area here. He did an illegal thing to do a questionably legal thing. I haven't been following with the story, but I also am trying not to drive myself crazy by reading about this shit.

what I don't get is people who think he was justified to shoot because they believed he feared for his life from someone who did not have a gun, but they don't assign that same logic to understanding why people who chased after him as he fled thought he was an active shooter and feared for their lives as well as the lives of others. it's often the same people who like to talk big about the importance of a "good guy with a gun" in scenarios where a bad guy with a gun starts shooting, but they've already decided who the good guys and bad guys are in this scenario, so it doesn't matter that he was the first one to use deadly force or that even if you buy his exaggerated fears there's no way for the whole ass crowd he fired in and around to know the minutiae of why he did it because anything he does is justified as him being The Good Guy and anything the rest do is unjustified as them being The Bad Guys he was there to protrct corporate property from.

and like yeah I understand duty to retreat and all, but these people are the same folks that will tell you if they'd been at that show in Las Vegas, or at that theater in Aurora, or Parkland HS, or whatever is their pet shooting du jour, they'd have been strapped & they'd have been The Hero that took out the shooter right away. am I to believe that they think they'd have done that, but also that they'd have perhaps stopped to discuss motivations with the shooter first to ascertain whether they were truly a threat, or if they were maybe just defending themselves?
