Take away those all profits and the CBO says the world will lose out on 59 new drugs over the next 30 years. Yeesh. Think off all the drugs your sasquatch ass is gonna need in the next 30 years after they lop off all your toes from infection.
Profits != revenue.

If some rich motherfuckers got a little less rich, but the same expenditure was spent on R&D, you'd still get your 59 drugs.

Praise Jesus and pass the shotgun!

So the government gave $29M in initial funding. That's a totally laffable amount and you know it. And again, that doesn't make it a drug.

You've really got your boner in the wrong place here bud.

The system has an interest in maintaining the system. We could have more r&d if we had less waste on the c-suite, but the CBO won't run those numbers.
So in your opinion, the government should be mandating how companies run themselves. Got it.

I realize that your dog in this fight is that you basically add no value as a middle man in Amazon's wheelhouse, so it hits close to home when I agitate for cutting the fuck out of middlemen.

However, I think if the government financed development of the drug (and they did, THE DRUG came from Emory university, and was bought up by "Ridgeback" and then licensed to Merck), then we should roll back the Reagan-era decision to cede monetary interest in patents on things developed on government funding.

And I realize that I have a dog in that fight too, being on several patents received through government-funded research. However, I don't, and won't ever, receive a dime off of those, and I'm fine with that, because what I did, I did with the funding of the US taxpayer, so the fruits of that labor naturally belong to them (us).

Absolutely!

IMO, companies should be mandated to provide a safe work environment and (fairly) compensate their employees for their labor. Companies shouldn't be allowed to feed children to machines. Companies shouldn't be able to murder their employees for organizing.

Radical, a century ago.

And apparently mandating each employee's salary, how much they spend on R&D, the size of the factory, the amount of TP they're allowed to use. Your world sounds so awesome!

The country would be far better if there was a confiscatory tax on income over $1M/year, no need to mandate wages.
