It was a colonoscopy, apparently.

yeah, while totally non-sedated colonoscopies do happen, they're not typical. usually it's because

1. medical - the patient has medical conditions that make the anesthesia options too risky, where the risks that come with doing it unsedated (mostly the risk that they'll move more, which increases risks for complications like bowel perforation) are less than the risks of sedation

2. financial - the patient can't afford the sedation

3. logistics - the patient can't get the time off work to recover from the anesthesia (on top of the time to have the procedure done and any time spent off during prep), and/or the patient doesn't have anyone that can get them home after the procedure

there's different levels of sedation they do for colonoscopy, usually it's moderate sedation which is a conscious sedation & a painkiller (usually midazolam & fentanyl) and you're technically awake but you're out of it and you most likely won't remember any of it. someone monitors your vitals during the procedure (pulse ox, bp, heart rate).

some people have to do monitored anesthesia care, where an actual anesthesia professional administers the anesthesia and monitors the vitals, usually a CRNA, and they usually do propofol. this is usually done when the patient either has had reactions or toleration issues with the other meds (midaz/fent) and/or if they have health issues that are likely to affect their heart and/or lungs. you may or may not be conscious, typically not, but even if you are, you won't remember it.

Or 4. The patient is a petty bitch.

Just imagine his pre-procedure cleansing.

Andrew Yang has left the Democratic Party and plans on starting his own party. As The Green Party and Libertarian Party can tell him, good luck getting ballot access.
