So here's the wiring diagram for my outboard. I'm missing a fair amount of stuff for it, so I'm just going to make a portable bench starter setup.
Cutting out the choke solenoid, choke switch, and mercury switch.
I'm wondering if I should setup a fuse between the battery and solenoid. Thoughts? If so, size of the fuse?

This might help, it's an amp rating vs. distance for a 6V system:

So, if you're going to do a maxi fuse or something in there, just size it so that it's slightly smaller than the carrying capacity of that 4 ga. wire between the battery and the solenoid.

For just a bench setup, I might skip it, as starters tend to blow fuses with the inrush current when you first engage the motor.

Oh yeah, since I don't want to bother with the 6V battery and such, I'm using a 12V battery. It is a mildly common trick with these, spins the starter faster but can burn it out if you do it too long. Means when I get the solenoids and such I'll have to upgrade to a later model solenoid (no biggie, but the starter and bracket are like finding hens' teeth)

I'd have to check lengths, but I don't even think I've got 10 feet of cable in this setup

Bought @AppleTurkey a new 2017 Golf Alltrack wagon. After doing a compression test on the Infiniti, I knew it was time to offload it before something bad occurred.

This one is a 2017, with 60k miles, at the SE trim with everything except big wheels and HIDs. Automatic, 1.8t, AWD.
Score!

Those tune up real nice with a canned tune:

Pretty sure we're going to leave it be, and learn about the care and feeding of the DSG first.

So the original Tecumseh motor in my 1990 lawn tractor is burning oil worse and worse, and all signs point to it being the valve guides. It's a common problem with the engine, cylinder heads are rare as hell and expensive since Tecumseh is long out of business, and changing the guides/valves isn't worth the $$ either.

In the meantime I've been topping up the oil and dealing with the big blue cloud on startup, and waiting for a suitable engine to pop up on FB marketplace.

Scored this beast today.

Didn't come with an exhaust but I can just screw a couple of universal NPT mufflers into it. The old engine has a combined throttle/choke lever on the side of the engine, this one has separate throttle/choke controls on the front, so I gotta lengthen the throttle cable and add a separate pull choke.

12HP -> 20.5HP should also mean the thing bogs down a little less mowing uphill.

rest of the drivetrain rated for that big of an increase?

I guess in the desert there's no reason to shut it off, lol.

Is nearly $30/yd. typical for headliner material? Seems a lot for that flimsy stuff. Might go look around a fabric store first. Maybe it's cheaper if you just call it fabric instead of "headliner material".
