Advice The Home Improvement/Automation Thread

So sometime in the past couple of weeks, the hot tub heater took a shit on me. As long as its plugged in, the GFCI breaker trips. Anything you guys can think of for me to try? A new one is $300, and I'd really rather not have to buy one.

you sure its the breaker and not the hottub? Its far more likely its the hottub. If the breaker box is dry and doesnt have any corrosion or damage to the wires, use a multimeter to test the heating coil on the hottub. Thatll trip the breaker if its shorted.

Im not spending 18 pages this time walking you through steps :D

Yeah, hot tub heater tripping the GFCI smells like water leaking somewhere it shouldn't in the heater, and coming into contact with AC power, which trips the GFCI so that you don't get electrocuted by your hot tub.

Does the heater have a replaceable heating element in it?

Is your question: Is the breaker tripping or the hottub tripping? :wtf: Yes, its the breaker, at the panel in the garage. If I unplug the heater, everything works fine.

Regardless, I went ahead and ordered another heater. :(

An empty plot of land on my road came up for sale. My neighbor was going to buy it but his financing fell though. So I bought it. Another 11 acres of land. I don't need it, but don't want more neighbors, same sentiment that my neighbor has. 3 homes are enough on this small road. Told my neighbor if he wants to buy it from me in the future, to let me know. On the bright side, I can cut down a few trees to give me a better southern exposure for astrophotography.

contiguous to your existing parcel?

Mostly yes. There's a triangle lot on the east edge of my property that is one of my neighbors, like 1 acre. The plot that I bought connects near where I took that photo, follows my property line to the back corner. There's a stone wall that separates the two plots.

I think as long as it wasn't a permanent thing, that zoning laws wouldn't apply. I.e. a couple weekends a year with friends camping out would not need any zoning ordinance changes. The town's zoning laws are a few pages long, total.

We should all chip in and get you one of these to act as a clubhouse/drunk tank.
