Ontopic Poo-litical Thrad

New Mexico's CD1 special election happened yesterday and it was a landslide in favor of the Democrat in the race. We had to have a new election because Deb Haaland decided to resign and go manage the Department of the Interior.

Stansbury (the Democrat) took fully 60%, and then the R's candidate was at 35%, the "Common sense" Independent (aka Republican-lite™) took 3% and the lolbertarian had about 7 dudes in total vote for him.

Saw that she was whuppin up on his ass last night when it was "too early to call." Glad to see they figured it out. Was the R candidate a nutjob?

No, he was a pretty solid candidate, but his campaign was completely incompetent.

The GOP figured (maybe correctly) that a 5 day old ham left out in the sun would be elected in CD-1, if nominated by the Democratic party, so they put basically no money behind it.

The guy I expected to do better (or at least act as a bigger drag on the R) was the Independent guy, who actually sunk some money into ads. He had no policy platform, but his entire selling point was that he wasn't beholden to anybody, "knows bullshit", and is an outsider. Lolbertarian is a total nutter butter.

Is there some real controversy with his emails or are they just interesting fodder for pundits to troll through?
There are definitely some inconsistencies as far as what was being said behind the scenes and what was said in public. I'm not outraged by the guy or anything. Just thought it was a funny post lol.

Over 1000 emails a day, and he was responding to maybe 200/day? Imma cut him some slack on the inconsistency. Read some of them - some funny shit there.

Trump has been banned from Facebook for the next two years because of his posts that incited the January 6th insurrection. Unfortunately that means he'll have access to the platform again just in time for the 2024 presidential campaign.

Good old Freedumb Cockus member Steve Pearce attributes poor GOP turnout in the NM CD-1 special election to anger over rigged elections.

Republicans: "Why vote at all in rigged elections!"

Also Republicans: "We told everyone the election was rigged and then nobody showed up to vote for us"
good, lets keep that up

Dems: "We told everyone the election was rigged our way and everybody STILL showed up to vote for us" :)
