Ontopic The new car-seching thread

I did replace it and it works good now.
I'm saying if it gets whacked out readings from that sensor and the usual adjustments don't remedy it right away it should trip to a default that'll work instead of crapping out in front of an 18-wheeler. Rpm and throttle position can do that, just trip to a default air flow based on those readings that fixed at some X barometric pressure that's good enough for now. Can't be that difficult to program that in, we can put a man on the moon after all.

Could even set the default as an average over history. Would work even better as long as it fucked up at some elevation similar to where you spend most your time. Can still light up the check engine light and fix it right after you get home in one piece or have your mechanic diagnose it, etc.
Don't drive your car when it's broken, dummy.

Fuckin' PO of the roadster welded the roll hoop to the frame, which, owing to the fact that the frame and roll hoop are on opposite sides of the body, has made transplanting the body somewhat problematic.

Fortunately, I don't care much about the frame, so plasma-choppy-choppy we go.

So when she drives 25 miles each way to pick up her grandkids and it shits the bed for no valid reason on the way back on a busy freeway with 3 generations of humans in the car and a couple dogs too with zero indication something might be wrong beforehand all because some nerd (or more likely bean counter team) didn't figure it was worth the time to program in a default too bad so sad let them get squashed?

With all the safety stuff that is built into cars now that is asinine.

In other words you not gonna come up with enough crumple zones to survive getting hit by 80000 pounds and the momentum that comes with it so you could at least let the motherfucker run so they can run out of the way.
It's dangerous and it's stupid.

Don't give me that horseshit. It didn't "just fail". You just ignored the SES light until it started misbehaving.

The SES light didn't come on until it started fucking up on her, on the freeway, on the way back. No odd behavior, no SES on the way there or when beginning the return trip.

No I am not and I have sufficient evidence that is both compelling at minimum and precedent setting at maximum and it all leads a reasonable person to believe I'm right.
To the computer scientist, all errors are human based. Fix your shit, you troublesome human! Ok, I agree with you that there are many devices where plummeting to nada doesn't need to happen.
Then again, imagine some attorney in Court grilling you, the manufacturer, "so, instead of letting this POS fall to zero function so a user would stop relying on it, you designed it so they would keep going like an asshole, even if it might endanger them?"
"yes".
"I rest my case!"

You're both right. Lot of people ignoring lights until shit absolutely stops working. DODL - driving on for dear life.

I already explained it 2 or 3 times. Perhaps someone can come up with a valid reason why such a thing Should cause a shutdown condition.

Because the ECU doesn't function without that input, duh.

On Nissans it limits the engine to 2500 RPM and makes it pig rich. IDK what GM does. Sounds like they were counting on the keys to fall out of the ignition switch and kill the owner before the MAF failed.

Probably. They had the bright idea to not let you flip the back seat down and access the trunk. I guess people that drive buicks aren't supposed to haul anything more than a set of golf clubs.

Holy shits! I’m glad you’re okay and that it didn’t happen in the garage.

O’d say get a new one, you deserve nice things, etc, but I know you’ll fix it instead. Handy and all.

Nah, this one was on its last legs, burned oil, shaft had a slight bend, mounting points on the body were starting to crack. This was the last straw and I don't think I'll be fixing her. Gonna look at Home Depot and Lowe's for a return, see if I can get something cheap.
