Ontopic Games Thread of love

I really enjoyed the hell out of the entire King's Field series. I know it was a slow, clunky, blocky game engine but the immersion into that world was a time vacuum. The music and atmosphere just grabbed you and pulled you in. I'd be thinking I'll only play for an hour and next thing I knew the sun was coming up.
Dark Souls is supposed to be the spiritual successor but I haven't played those games yet.
The Elder Scrolls is the best replacement I could ask for. Though it has a different feeling. Same first person view, swords and magic. Monsters and dungeons. But still missing something that King's Field had. Nostalgia , I guess.
That being said, The Elder Scrolls has tons of personality that kingsfield couldn't touch .

I remember playing some open world RPG on PS1. I *think* it was Kings Field. If so, it was fucking awesome.

It was kinda open world. The mission was pretty linear but once you got each map/section open, you could keep going back as needed. In some cases you came full circle. Like the farthest part from your starting point became the closest once you got everything opened up.

Peanut and I have been playing Divinity: Original Sin 2. (awful confusing name by the way)

But theres good reason its considered one of the best CRPGs in decades. I never liked turn based stuff, but im adapting to it. The story and pure depth of the world is amazing. The stuff you can figure out and do organically and have the game not only not-break, but support it is awesome.

For example: Your goal is to escape this prison island: theres about 30 ways to do so ranging from killing every guard in the place to finding an obscure set of Gloves of Teleportation, teleporting down to a beach and escaping on a dinghy, to having 4 or 5 different people help you escape in different ways, etc.

Spell combos that you discover organically are super fun too. I recently cast a spell that does damage when an enemy moves, then turned them into a chicken, cast haste on them so they move extra fast, and then scared the chicken so it ran around a bunch. Big strong guard dead in one turn.

Did you ever try Deep Rock Galactic?

So, I was getting pissed at Valheim for a while because I kept dying and couldn't figure out how to build well. Turns out there's shit you gotta figure out like how to build a chimney so you don't die from inhaling too much smoke, only there no chimney you just have to figure it out. I could actually see myself playing this one for a while.

And I looked it up, not a snowball's chance in hell for a console version in the near future. Shame really, there's probably a large enough market for it.
