WTF I have decided to unfollow Jesus.

I still haven't run out of bible facts that my Christian co-workers don't know about. The topic today was abortion so I sent one of them Numbers 5:11-31 that describes a god ordained abortion ritual. I got no comment.

You probably bummed them out,"damn, I didn't need to marry Betty Jean. We still would have been siblings."

dude, that is a super obvious passage that says abortion is a god-ordained punishment for infidelity. How do religious people ignore that one

That passage only addresses abortion in the case of a married woman suspected of cheating. It doesn't address the issue of an unmarried(or widowed) woman having an abortion so the message to OOD's co-workers may not have made a total wrap of the abortion subject.

The mental work around will be that it was because the woman committed a sin and it's her fault her baby died because she's a filthy sinner. The reason I didn't get a comment is because now they have to figure out why it's okay for God to kill "babies". The best option to keep their faith is to ignore it, "God works in mysterious ways".

Agreed
But back to the widowed women scenario - husband died when she was <9 months? She had no sin. So if she has an abortion(yes, believers think taking a fetus' "life" is sinful/murder), why does God make the baby pay the ultimate price but the mom gets off scot-free? Within this plane of assumed existence.
The underlined part either requires an explanation or their "framework" is defective.
imo.

Ayo but also don't unbaptized babies go to purgatory, too? so it's not like he's "calling them home"

It's catholic which wouldn't apply to most people I know but it's a good point.
I was an acolyte in the episcopal church for years but I've forgotten a lot and never bought into most of it anyway, I started going because of a misunderstanding and then my need to be helpful and to make adults like me kept me there lol

Oh yeah Episcopal does the purgatory stuff too, if I'm not mistaken. Most churches are Baptist and Methodist around here. They don't have as many books in the bible as Catholic bibles.

I tried to go back to church after I stopped believing, for the community aspect, but I couldn't get past a few things; homosexuality being a sin, being born a sinner, the requirement of 100% conformity. I've only been to one church that wasn't like that and I was told I wasn't dressed properly, hard pass.

I'd love to hear about what kind of misunderstanding could have put you in the church, if it's not too personal.
