Advice The Home Improvement/Automation Thread

bobs furniture, which i think is a local chain. Of course its all just drop shipped from china, so it might be the same. Its all solid wood except the tabletop which is veneered. So i suppose like like a 6 outta 10 in tolerance.
too
It came with lock washers on all bolts thankfully, and im locktiting the bolts too
Good. My stuff is all solid wood too. Probably cheap shit stained to look like walnut, but solid wood.

I've been getting the TP-LInk Kasa switches for all the lights. They're finally at a price that I like and it's not a lightbulb dependent system. I have a couple of the plug adapters for lamps and backyard string lights.
I've swapped out just about every switch in the house. Automation is awesome.

I swapped all but the double-wide light switches. It's great for routines for like watching movies and starting the day. We often lead the backyard lights on too. It's nice not having to go downstairs to turn those off.

Top 3 favorites I've done so far:
* LED lights that light up our ENTIRE previously dark pantry when the door opens
* "Alexa, vacuum the kitchen"
* "Alexa, turn off all the lights"

Those are stupid simple, but probably super frequently used

I think our most commonly used are

1) Alexa turn on/off the tv

2) One of the alexa "hunch" routines that was automatically generated which after the alarm goes off on the echo show slowly starts ramping the lights in the bedroom, upstairs hallway, and bathroom. It doesnt ramp the lights if you snooze, or if you havent gotten up yet (seems to use the proximity sensor on the echo show). Super impressive automation to have been automatically generated with no input.

3) Alexa (house, upstairs, downstairs, outside) lights on/off

Yeah, robotic vacuum. And mine wasn't stupid simple to do at all.

The built in Xiaomi integration doesnt have room integration eh. Valedudo does though it seems, and it talks MQTT, presuming thats the path ya had to take

I want to get a robot vacuum, but I'd have to pick up so much. Plus we have tile, hardwood, and a shag rug to contend with. Kids need to start sweeping.
Yeah, the robot vacuum forces you to clean up. Its honestly a good thing. A good robovac can handle all those surfaces without issue.

We dont sweep anymore on the tile, the vacuum is that good.

No room integration. No maps saving either. Valetudo does hack in some map saving, but it's not perfect. Sometimes the house gets flipped around. Valetudo also reports the map to HA via MQTT, but I haven't tried using that to restore the map (if its even possible). It's extremely fragile.

So now I'm waiting for a deal on a Roborock.

It's chairs and cat food stuff that I would have to pick up every night.. That's half the part of sweeping already.

Mine can fit between the chair legs. Does a good job of weaving around without issue.

Cat food killed my last roomba :p Ran over plate of wet food, ate it all up into its wheel motor and burned out the motor control on the main board
