Ontopic The new car-seching thread

Kids truck is running. Dude went from a lowered little fart can equipped faux racecar rice burner to a full size Chevy truck. Might make a man out of him yet.

Turns out his Dad put in some aftermarket fuel pump that was the wrong type. Not enough pressure to run the injectors. Had what "seemed like" good pressure at the engine so they ruled it out as being a problem but never thought to actually put a gauge on it. :-/

Love the shotgun approach to troubleshooting. Always works so well.

His dad was a good mechanic back when everything had carburetors. Electronic/computer control type stuff not so much.
"It has gas, must be something else"

Thing came with new timing chain set and ignition coil too, lol.

@Jehannum

Got three turbos at a recent race from someone cleaning out his storage unit. You ever rebuild a turbo? They look fairly straightforward. Started to take them apart and they look fairly decent as well.
It is a pair of Holset HX35Ws, and something else I can't really find any info on.

So I might be trading the Fit (2009, 198K on the clock, burns its oil capacity between changes, airbag light on, it's a fucking beater) with a coworker for a...

1991 Corolla (this isn't the actual picture of it). Old uncle driven, 50K on it, garage stored, never winter driven.

His uncle can't drive anymore, nobody else in the family wants it, he'd take it except 1991 crash safety standards and they just had a kid and his wife won't let him put a car seat in it. And he's already got a '09 Fit that's in worse shape than mine, and he figures he can get a few more years out of mine, and all his tires / fancy roof racks / whatever just drop right on.

I figure the Corolla would be a fun summer car. Cheap on gas, cheap to run. Maybe I'll fuck with it just a little (throw a 4AGE in there or something) or maybe I'll keep it as-is.

They're easy to rebuild if you're just replacing bearings. Only thing you have to watch out for is to make sure the compressor wheel and nut go back on in exactly the same orientation they came off in, because they're balanced as a unit.

I'd certainly do it.

If your fit is really burning that much oil and not just leaking it a few more years may be kind of optimistic. Valve stem seals are cheap though.

So the "kid" calls and says his truck won't run again, needs a ride from work.
I can tell you without looking he didn't do anything either myself or the real mechanic I sent him to for a real diagnostic told him to do.

Gonna let him stress for a bit. Maybe I'll have time this weekend, maybe I won't. Depends a whole lot more on his attitude than it does the damn truck.

Basically grow up or ride a bicycle. I'm sick of explaining the same shit over and over.
