Advice The Home Improvement/Automation Thread

oh, im confused.

You said " since it seems to me that I should be able to figure out front ends for kodi and/or mythtv on one of the several devices that are hanging around the TV now "

But you're already using a front end, Kodi.

Correct, but I'm open to using a different front end, since Kodi and Myth both have basically zero support on the Roku device I'd like to use instead of the server (which currently runs Kodi).

its

a) cloud
b) cost 4.99 a month

you know he's not gonna go for either of those
No, it supports your own local card.

edit: Ahh, yeah, its still Plex Pass only for now. Then try it for $5. If you like it, pay $120 and have it for life (or $40/yr). God forbid we pay for software!

thats a pricy solution unless you already have the injectors. That said, if you're planning, its absolutely the way to go. High quality cat6a can do 4k60 HDR which is something that cant be said of most hdmi cables :p

You may want it in more locations though once you actually have the option. :iono:
I've only got one TV, and I only watch TV at the TV.

It's not a matter of "maybe I'll want it in more places" so much as a conscious decision to not tether myself to media in such an obvious way.

Plastic electrical box shortage at Home Depot.

i mentioned this like two weeks ago... wtf for.

It looks like the NEC might be porting over to fiberglass boxes in the next revision for a number of reasons. I got some of those when i went out.. i dunno about em. Better clamping system, less box space used up for the wiring ingress. Sturdier overall.
