Ontopic String's and Adi's gear & pedal thread

In a last-ditch effort to find a fuzz locally, I stopped by the music store nearest my town. I had to pee, you know, being human and all. No public restroom, they said. So I went to the restroom at the grocery store next door and didn't return. No wonder small business is dying. Less options, higher prices, worse customer service, worse return policies. I'll stick with Sweetwater, where I can shop while I poo.

You heard of this site? They have Joyo and a bunch of other cheaper brands. I think they stopped making the one I got but I would be willing to give their other stuff a try. There was one called American Sound that was a fender amp sim. The TB crew swore by them. There's a white one on there called California Sound that's a Mesa sim.

Disclaimer: I've never ordered from that site, and these are not bass specific pedals--far from it.
Not the site but now that you mention it I have read about Joyo sometime in the past then it kinda faded from the memory banks so thanks for the reboot.

Some of the public bathroom inconveniences are covid related, FYI.
If your locale is into that stuff anyway.

Oh shit. I thought you were looking for overdrive, so disregard my previous post(s) even more than usual.

That very issue might be a factor in why only 1, really nice, non-chain music store exists in the Metro Detroit area. "Motor CIty Guitar." - they took a small movie theater, removed the slope in what was the theater. 2 huge bathrooms with a few stalls. Vending area and a few booths. You could hang there all day and not get bored. More selection than any Guitar Center.

While reading up on home audio, I came across a cnet article meant to bust myths that claimed running too few watts into a speaker is more likely to damage it than too many watts. Why is the audio world so full of shit? They claimed that maximum wattage should be treated as minimum wattage. This is why people buy Bose, you dont have to wade through bullshit to get something decent.

It's bullshit, but then again Bose is bullshit too.
You're basically getting it from both ends.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.

You're right, but I can at least understand why Bose pushes their bullshit.... actually I bet Bose pushes the other bullshit too, so they can confuse people and make their brand seem more convenient.

Bose can sound good when you have all their accompanying stuff.

Measure one of their speakers without their baked in correction and you're like, huh?

Then put some power to it without their DSP and baked in limiting and you're like, triple huh???

I heard Bose was more about the chambers inside the cabinet than the actual speaker. Though that story is old.

Transmission line, slot port, bandpass, line array, etc. Nothing new but a good execution of something old.

Really there is no new anything as far as the mechanical stuff, boxes, drivers, etc. DSP to control and maximize that stuff leaps ahead ages in a short time like all other digital tech.

Really not that unlike the internal combustion engine. Material and design advancements, cyber control enhancements, but still manipulating and refining the same century+ old basics. No real "great leap forward" ... Yet.
