this is what started this particular conversation.
my points are:
1. nobody is asking anybody anything in earnest in this exchange
2. "the people that are trying to take their guns away" describes liberals
3. the people that would be asking for help are protesters
4. the demographic of the protesters skews overall more left than liberal (and others have also characterized the protesters as primarily antifa/anarchists)
5. anarchists & other leftists do not want to take their guns
6. nobody is asking the (right-wing) "gun nuts" to bring their guns and save them; the left has gun nuts, too.
7. the reason the joke is being made is because those right-wing gun nuts talk a big game about tyranny, and will demonstrate against things that are actually just inconveniences that they've labeled tyranny, but when actual tyranny occurs, they don't care because the appropriate people are suffering
Many did show up, they were told to go home, got called right wing extremists/neo-nazis
I'm sure as fuck not going to go out, commit suicide by FBI/DHS-agent to fight for your right to set fire to a courthouse, or protect communists.
There are indeed a lot of left wang gun nuts, but there's no label for them, thus, cant be used by the armchair freedom fighter trying to craft snarky tweets that sound more cutting and profound than they actually are
