Advice The Home Improvement/Automation Thread

Seen it done to bed in rings in an outboard engine.
Slow speed to avoid heating anything up.

Maybe a foodsafe lubricant?

its actually not going to any potable sources (just all the sillcocks and sprinkler zones), but i dont wanna risk anything backflowing into the pressure tank (although i shouldnt... i have a check valve on it)

Two dumb updates:

- Just added an outlet on the side of the backyard shed and hung a Dynatrap 1100, to see if it puts any dent in the local mosquito population. Only had to get stitches once, courtesy of a sharp edge on the octagon box I used to join the indoor 14/2 to the NMWU 14/2 going to the flush mount outdoor box :/

- One of the dog daycare clients is literally giving us a professional gas stove! The convection feature stopped working, and the problem is apparently a bad motherboard which is no longer available. But courtesy of some extended warranty thing they had on their credit card, they got their money back for the thing and bought a new stove instead.

Only catch is, it's 36" wide, and our existing stove is 30" wide. So it'll probably sit in the garage for a year while we remodel the kitchen around it. Or more likely, I'll fix it and sell it and buy a 30" wide stove.

@Mr. Asa @Mustard Dispenser @wetwille

Ya'll got any tricks for loosening up stiff ball valves. Ive got a couple of 1 1/4 brass ones that I turn with an actuator motor that it struggles with. Not sure what materials the seals in em are, so I dont wanna just willy nilly spray anything down the throat to lubricate

if a little 3-in-1 oil on the valve stem doesnt do it, just replace it, its all gunked up inside and not worth dickin with

if its not a huge deal to make room for it, 36 inch stoves are a huge upgrade in usability over 30.

custom?
how much effort does it take to open them
I have 10k psi ball valves here that swing open and closed super smooth & easy

the stem matches the actuator motors and the body has built in mount points for it.

Takes a lot of effort, like with a standard 4 inch handle you gotta put your weight into it. Im not sure why theyre so tight

if its just holding back city water pressure, say less than 25psi, theres no reason for them to be that tight
like I said, i have 10k valves from swagelok that open almost effortlessly, all stainless steel construction
yours may be faulty in some way? They definitely shouldnt take that much effort to open/close

its tight with no pressure, and you're right, ive got industrial valves that you can open with a finger. Ive got 4 of em and theyre all hard to open like that.

heeeey, they sent me the model # for the oven and it's a 30 inch! It'll drop right into the kitchen.

Kenmore Pro model # 79523. Electric oven, gas cooktop. They elaborated some more - it throws an ERR code from time to time, almost always in convection mode. Should be easy enough to diagnose.

So I need to run gas to it. Just gotta run about 6 feet of line from the back of the stove, through the back of 1 cupboard, out the side of the house. I'll probably put a 100# propane tank out there and get it filled myself at Costco or whatever. Rather than running the line myself, I'll get some random local heating company that knows what they're doing to hook it up for me.

Had a 420# tank at the old house for the gas stove (which was gas oven + gas cooktop!) and only refilled it every 3-4 years.
