Ontopic Health Thread: post your AIDS, diseases and infekshunz here.

During one of my hospital stays, I still had the woundhole and the nurses would pack it. One nurse was way past her expiration date and always wore the old-timey nurse outfit, complete with nurse dress, little hat, and white hose. All the other nurses were in scrubs and (ugh) Crocs *ulp*.

She had unwrapped my leg and pulled out the packing and while repacking it, I noticed she really wasn’t doing anything. Just fumbling with the cloth strip around the hole and not IN it, so I asked “Do you want me to do that?” and before I could get it all out, her eyes rolled up into her noggin and she collapsed.

I rang for a nurse for the nurse. She was awful, but better than the one I called out for being drunk. I whispered “I can smell you from here, but your secret is safe with me wink wink”. Never saw her again.
Mine were both dealt with on an outpatient basis. Just "here's the bottle of packing, here's how you sterilize the foreceps, go wild but remember to change your packing every day".

Granted, they saw me fairly often for chemo, but it was nobody's job but mine to deal with my grody pus-hole.

hey now, crocs may look dumb as fuck, but they're ridiculously comfortable when you have to be on your feet all day in a hospital. they're also really easy to clean. there are other good shoes you can wear, but they're more expensive and it's a lot more of a bummer to get viscera or fluids on your good danskos. you just have to make sure you get the kind that don't have holes - they make your feet sweater, but you don't have to worry about getting pissfeet.

Pretty slippery on wet floors once they have a little wear. I own 2 pairs.

I think a plant based diet is fine, few minerals that are hard to get from plant-based diet: iron, zinc, magnesium, calcium.
Well this is old but I'm still going to reply.

A variety of grains, beans, nuts, and leafy greens well get all of that in a plant based diet. The leafy greens are especially great for calcium, a better source than milk.

By the way, everyone should consider taking B12. Unless you are hunting for your primary food source, you're not getting a natural source either way.

Vitamin D deficiencies are also common, as well as missing out on omega 3s.
You can get plenty of D from the sun, but as most people don't supplement that shit. You can get all your omega 3s but they are expensive and supplements are cheaper.

Also want to watch you iodine intake. The biggest source of iodine is from cows getting their teats cleaned with it and it getting in your milk. I use iodized salt, not dead year lol.

We use iodized light salt, half sodium, half potassium.
Many mushrooms have great doses of D3, 100 gr fulfills your daily RDA. Basically any of the mushrooms that grow on wood and get some light. Not the ones that grow on shit in the dark, i.e. white buttons and portabella/creminis. Your body needs A to make D from the sun.

Yes to B12 - very important for proper nerve sheath rebuilding, great for most nerve issues. Those who want to save their body a processing step in the liver buy a methyl form of B12.

Things have changed since i was a kid. Fever is not a thing you treat anymore solely for the sake of fever apparently. You only treat it to alleviate discomfort.

Youngest kid had a 104.5 fever yesterday, and that was scary, but apparently a fever that high isnt an issue unless the kid is uncomfy.
