Ontopic RIP Thread

Not sure. She's snoozing on me now, am waiting to see what effect it'll have on her over time. Am sure we'll do some more walks etc. so at least that'll keep me going. Getting Kes in the first place gave me a reason to get up in the morning so there's still that.
I know you're way more of a dog person than I, but i heard once its important to let your other pets say goodbye, sniff the one thats gone, etc. Like it helps them understand.

I think there is some truth to that. I let my one dog sniff my other after he was gone. Sniff, sniff, then he laid down and looked confused. He knew something was off, he just didn't know what. He still was confused for weeks, walking around the house like "where the fuck is Tank hiding?"

Sure, I think that's true. She was with us all for a couple of hours before we took him away. Not sure it quite sunk in for her, once he was in the car she came inside and was looking for him. They were best friends. 😭😭

It is. They're intelligent beings too.

I make the boxes big enough they can be comfortable with a blanket and pillow or if they die in a weird position we don't have to crumple them up to fit them in there. They can just lay peaceful until our time runs out and we meet them on the other side.

Those Dutch people have some alien systems inside or something. She smoked like a chimney and ate toast with frosting and sprinkles on it for lunch, and still made it to like 90 years old. Amazing.

I’m picturing boxes lined up in a shed, and if lids are lifted, the rotting remains will be inside, in various states of decomposition. Like a body farm in your yard.

Please tell me otherwise.

My family is like that. The only one who died from lung cancer is the one who never smoked, etc.

Medicine, for all its advances, is still largely guesswork. The increase in life expectancy as of late is mostly linked to infant mortality, not because people are actually living longer than they would've anyway.

On the plus side we tend to lose our minds several years before our bodies so I'll be able to make many inappropriate comments and claim ignorance and they have to believe me.
