Country acts used to play county fairs and hockey arenas there all the time, met a bunch of em. They'd recruit kids from high school music department to do stagehand grunt work in exchange for tickets to the show and obvs seeing how things work behind the scenes.

Marty Stuart was pretty badass. Did their hits of course but the other half of the material was like at least a southern rock jam with some things a notch harder than that. And a little bluegrass flavor thrown in once in a while.
All top notch musicians that were in no way limited in their sound/talents.

That’s when they were real and not pop guys who couldn’t make it in pop. Charlie Daniels was heavily influenced by jazz, because they were real and could play their instruments. Watermelon Crawl dude, shmoe.
