Food So Has Anyone Brewed Beer Before?

Something got stuck when it was time to cool the wort and it took something like 10 minutes to get the flow going. We’ll see what happens. It’s in its fermentation bucket now.

Ordered up goodies to make an Oat Porter, and an orange’ish Witbier.

The witbier is going to be a shameless hack of something a local place makes. Got stuff like orange peel and paradise seed in it. :iono: what it’ll turn into, but WGAS,

FUCK IT LETS DO IT LIVE.

Are you using a hop bag?

No. And I didn't use muh hop spider like a n00b. :waw:

I have the false bottom and I should be using that, but again, n00b.

The dip tube wasn't inserted all the way into the bulkhead for the valve, because again, n00b. And I think it got to close to the bottom of the pot.

Have I mentioned I'm a n00b when it comes to this.

Anyhoo, lessons learned, more ingredients ordered, want to brew all the things.

I'm sure you did, but just in case - make sure you jam the faucet/hose into your Therminator and spray it out good and under as much pressure as possible. If shit dries inside, you're going to be hard pressed to get it out, and then you'll run the risk of it fouling all your beers.

I backflush the Therminator almost immediately after the lid goes on the fermentor.

Blows all the crap out nicely.

I also "test" the Therminator before I brew when I sanitize it with boiling water pumped through it.

In a possibly failed attempt to adjust the coarse temperature adjustment screw higher on the new freezer, I borked it. Finally got it back together, but I've ordered another thermostat just in case. It will be here tomorrow.

Really crazy idea(not really, common work-around for many devices). Put the freezer on high(coldest), plug it into one of those cheap plug-in PIDs, drop the thermocouple/sensor into the freezer. Voila - digital control. Something like this.

Already done on the 3 chest freezers we have now. I don't want to do that. One, its another hole for heat and moisture to get in (all this shit is essentially outside). Also, it's nice for everything to work 'normally' including the interior light and defrost cycle.

Ok. Don't see many chest freezers with auto-defrost or a light but I suppose better ones are like that. Carry on.👍
